Hello all
I dont know if this forum is the right one to post abt Gemstones, but i couldnt find another.

I have some fundamental doubts about deciding a gemstone for an individual.
1) I know that gemstones enhance the effect of a planet in one's horoscope. So does this mean that if a planet is the lord of auspiscious houses in one's birth chart but is not well placed in the chart, then should the stone of that planet be worn by the individual to over-come the bad-effects of that planet & enhance its strength ?

i've never seen colored stones doing any magic ever
if a planet is beneficiery and well placed but is weak due to afflictions, combustions etc, then using its relative color will enhance its strength and it can give support to houses it owns and results through them

in all other cases gemstones or colors fail

I once read a website that pertained to colors and the nodes, and using color to enhance north nodes. I know this has nothing to do with vedic, but I would assume that something like this would carry over to vedic.

Now, I'm not for or against the use of stones. I know everytime I pick up hematite, I feel something I don't feel from the other stones. Whether it is a good or bad feeling, I don't know, but it is something.

I know stones are often associated with health issues. I might be more inclined to encourage the use of stone if health is a concern. I'm more inclined towards Feng Shui for life issues.

Well, the Vedics make heavy use of gemstones. Rubies o correct an afflicted Sun or Mars, pearls to stabilise an afflicted Moon - I have seen sites around that discuss these. I am not sure which stones go with which planets, nor have I really tried it, though.

personally i never suggest those colored stones to anyone because of bad indian history.
all kings who used them heavily in their crowns and other ornaments died on battle fields, lost their kingdoms and made india a slave to british.

british who carried few of those to their country (like kohinoor diamond etc) have suffered in world wars and later had to lose many countires which were under their control.

so those stones are found useful to none

Wearing the gemstone of an inauspiciously placed planet can definitely be counter productive, irrespective of whether the planet rules an auspicious house.

Gemstones have to be carefully recommended, taking the entire chart into consideration.
