Everyone who knows even a little bit advanced in astrology should be able to figure out the poem of olde is about the planets and the days they were assigned:

Moon

Monday's child is fair of face, (can't be hard to figure that one out)

Mars??? (God of WAR?!)

Tuesday's child is full of grace,

Mercury (changeable planet of thought and communication)

Wednesday's child is full of woe (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/woe),

Jupiter (expansion, wisdom, travel)

Thursday's child has far to go,

Venus (planet of romance and society)

Friday's child is loving and giving,

Saturn (planet of responsibility)

Saturday's child works hard for a living,

Sun (self-expression)

But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday)

Is bonny and blithe and good and gay

So why are the days ruled by malefics (Mars and Saturn) good, but neutral Mercury is bad? Why isn't the day ruled by Saturn, the truly woeful planet the one full of woe?
