Mathur Dinesh, are you using vedic astrology? Could I ask a big favor? I'm in a dasa7 Jupiter and a bhukti 2 venus. What does that mean? I would appreciate it if you could shed even the smallest amount of knowledge on what this means. I apoligise for being so direct, but I've been wondering what this means for about a year now. Oh and the dasa bhukti thing I was talking about was referring to a vedic transit that I'm supposed to be having. I got the information off of some astrology software that I have, but I'm clueless as to how to interpet it. Lilllybelle

Hello,
I have made your chart. You are undergoing the sub-period of Venus in the major-period of Jupiter since July 2, 2006. It will continue till March 2, 2009.
Vedic astrology is a sidereal astrology. The precession of equinoxes is deducted from the tropical positions of the celestial bodies/points. It is based on the actual position of these bodies at anytime in the sky.
At anytime several planets become operational in the life of an individual based on the natal position of the Moon (sidereal of course).
In your chart for example, the birth Moon is at 0 deg 31 minutes and 12 seconds in Libra. Do not be surprised. This is the sidereal position of the birth Moon. It is in a constellation ruled by Mars. Therefore immediately at birth till Aug 20, 1980 Mars was operating in your life. This is called the major-period (Dasa). The major-period (Dasa) of Jupiter in your chart is now current since August 20, 1998.It will last for 16 years that is till August 20, 2014.
Within each major-period the sub-periods (Bhukti) of nine planets starting with the sub-period of the planet of which the major-period is current operate. The sub-period of Jupiter (Bhukti) in the major-period of Jupiter ran from August 20, 1998 to October 7, 2000.
This is the Vedic method of directing and it is invaluable in predicting the life course of an individual. There are clear rules to calculate dasa, bhukti etc.
Transits are different and they are considered subservient to the period time frame. Transits cannot produce something that is not indicated by the period time frame.
The bhukti of Mercury in the dasa of Jupiter operated from April 20, 2003 to July 26, 2005. Mercury is placed in the XII house from Jupiter and is associated with Mars. The latter signifies younger siblings. Separation/loss of such a relative in this period is possible.
