View Full Version : Website Down, Lost posts/threads
Hi all
There has been a technical glitch lately that resulted in the loss of some posts or threads that were sent during a certain period. I am very sorry about that.
More exactly, the hosting company moved the website's files from one machine to another one, then the nameservers had to be updated so that the domain name would point to the IP of the new machine, which also took a while; this is why, I think, all posts sent a during the whole process (that might have taken some time) are lost.
This was a single issue and likely won't happen again.
Please accept my apologizes.

Hi Radu
For the last ten days or so I've noticed that the top two threads under the Forums heading on the right of the homepage have listed the subject "undefined" sent by undefined. Clicking on these "threads" brings up a screen which states that no such threads exist and one should contact the administrator. I have done this but have received no response. I thought they might have been connected with the recent missing posts incident, but they are still there. Any explanation?

Missing posts i can deal with, but what's with the site going down constantly? I know the site came back briefly sunday morning, but all day monday it was down again. Why is this happening, and can we expect more of this in the near future? Not trying to be snippy at all, but i think we all would like to be warned before, so we all aren't so confused when we can't log on to the site. Thanks!
The hosting company is trying to fix some server issues after moving to a new machine and I'm working with them to ensure that everything works perfectly (which is not the case yet). Sorry for the website down time, as you may imagine I am as saddened as you by this (or more). Thank you for your concern. I appreciate it.

Any comment on the two "threads" entitled 'undefined'?

Sage,
For the last ten days or so I've noticed that the top two threads under the Forums heading on the right of the homepage have listed the subject "undefined" sent by undefined.Where are those two "undefined" threads? Can you please define them for me, as in give me their links? My eyes spot nothing. Maybe I'm a bit out of practice due to the forum's fall-out:p.

Uranus Retrograde?

Thanks for this, Sage. So, you meant the AW site, not the forum (and here I hunted high and low for the "undefined" :D). Shall have a look tomorrow.
My eyes hurt now, growing old.... Saturn's just about left my first house:p.. long transit that was.
"Uranus Retrograde?" that's another long one. I'd pin the forum crash and no-response bit down onto a couple of other things (too), like the shadow period of Mer, and a lot on the hands of the forum admin with fixing this forum, etc the last few days. I think that the "unidefined" bit might be due to some broken links in the 'data string'. I am sure Radu will soon read these posts and action.
Cheers,
;)AQ7
I think that those posts by "undefined" are the ghosts of the real posts that were lost during the process. Given that things have returned to normal, in terms of host stability and server functioning, we should have any more issues in the "near"future. It was just a storm announcing Mercury going retrograde.

Yes, I was thinking of that Mercury. But why are these two posts not going down like the other one's? They are still up there.

Thanks for the explanation, guys, but those ghosts in the machine are still there - and I didn't receive any emails notifying me of replies to my posts.

You're right, starlink, they're not moving down the list.
As I mentioned in my original post on this thread, they've been there for about ten days now, so I don't think it's logical to link them with Mercury's current pre-retrograde storm.
However, as the reputed big brother of Mercury and ruler of astrology, Uranus is currently retrograde and it might be a useful waste of time to see if there is any upsurge in anti-astrological communications (negative publicity from naysayers, or technological upsets on astrology websites, for example) when both Uranus and Mercury are retrograde at the same time, as they will be from just after 09:00 GMT on Monday, September 7th, until 17:30 GMT September 29th, including an exact opposition at 15:30 GMT September 23rd.
I'm beginning to think "The Undefined" might make a good title for the next blockbuster alien movie!
You don't know what they are, they won't go away, but you know they're out there ... waiting.
Coming soon to a forum near you!

Many thanks, starlink. A bit of humour sometimes helps.
I hope this doesn't sound too much like "And another thing ..." but there are a couple of other functions that the web engineers might look at while they are completing the changeover to new servers:
1) I now seem to have to log back on with screen name and password after each navigation away from the site, even though the AW window is open but minimised. Previously, once having signed on, I would remain signed in until I switched off my computer at the end of the session.
2) The "I'm online" light doesn't come on when I'm online (is there a techy word for this square box next to the screen name?). This problem has occurred before and was fixed fairly quickly after correspondence, so I imagine there's a connection somewhere that needs to be activated.
Otherwise everything seems to be working fine and I'm really looking forward to a good dose of Mercury Retrograde, Saturn/Uranus opposition, Venus/Neptune opposition, not to mention Full Moon conjunct MC and my sister's 75th birthday.
It's going to be quite a busy month. :whistling:
Enjoy.

P.S. Still no notification emails of replies to posts.

Make sure you have ticked the "Remember Me" box next to the log in cases.

No, there isn't such thing. Actually I think it has do to with the login issue. Just tick that box and this should solve the problem.

Before sending this reply, I will restart the server. If you receive the notification of my reply to this thread, then the restart has (temporarily) solved this problem.

Cheers, Radu, that's sorted problems 1 & 2. The website now remembers me and my light comes on. Bliss. It's all so obvious when you know how ... being an Aquarian is no guarantee of computer literacy! :crying:
I still didn't receive a notification of your reply, however.
Many thanks for all your hard work in making this site work so well so much of the time. It's FAB!
