View Full Version : Arts or science ?

Hi,

I’m 26, currently working in software development but getting bored at my job. I am contemplating a career change, but I hesitate between two orientations, namely arts and science.

On the one hand, I’ve been interested for a long time in arts like screenwriting and music. I understand that my Sun/Venus/Jupiter conjunction in Leo / 12th trine Neptune might indicate some artistic inclinations… But creating is always a struggle for me : even though it can sometimes give me joy, most of the time it’s quite painful, for a result that I often find disappointing. I’ m also easily blocked : I can write every day for three months but then produce nothing for a year…

On the other hand, for the last few months, I’ve developed an interest in science, especially in physics, to the extent that I’m now considering leaving my job and going back to college full-time in order to get a physics degree. But it would be a heavy decision as I would have to study for at least four years, and who knows what I’ll be interested in four years from now ? It’s hard for me to engage in long-term projects as I know I can change my mind very easily and inexplicably lose interest in a subject that once thrilled me…

I know I need a career change but the pressure to choose the right path is quite paralyzing… In a way, it’s like I feel that I can’t trust myself with such an important decision ! So I’d like to know if you see anything in my chart that might help me to choose a path… Does my chart point to a career in arts, science, or something else ? What would be your advice ?

I also recognize myself a lot in descriptions of people experiencing a Saturn’s return : the pressure, the feeling of responsibility, the need to choose a path that’s more in sync with who I am... Mine will only be two years from now, but is it possible that I’m already experiencing the first effects of this transit ?

My birth data : 14 Aug. 1979, 07:55 AM (UT 05:55 AM), 50N26-3E49.

Thanks for your help !

I just read an article on Noel Tyl's site about career. I ordered his book on that, also. As I am right now struggling with what I want to be when I grow up. However, unlike you, I am way past Saturn Return #1 and working my way to Saturn Return #2.

To me, looking at your chart, it has "healer" written all over it. Your MC is Venus, Venus is in the 12th house. Perhaps leading you to one day work in a hospital or in a healing capacity.

I'm not an expert, but I think Science... and perhaps teaching, lecturing, and or writing about it one day.

Julien,

One thing to be aware of, if you are not already, is that you have an unaspected (strong energy) Mars (being, also action) and Mercury (thinking/daily work). People with unaspected energies feel that these energies do not "connect in" with them, so they work extra hard at making these energies happen and often end up OVERdoing the energies. With an unaspected Mars and Mercury, you may tend to want to do a LOT of action and do a LOT of thinking, which may result in OVERacting or OVERthinking. The challenge is to understand that doing and thinking energy is in you...even if it does not always seem apparent to you. If you already have a career and it is going well, be careful about throwing it all away in impulsive action or thinking.

Urging caution in word and deed,

Tim

Lori, Tim, thanks for your replies.

Lori, I had never really thougt about the “healer” direction… It’s funny you said that, though : right after high school, my original goal was to become a doctor… But after a year of college, I realized it wasn’t really for me and I dropped without a second thought.

But maybe I should understand “healer” more figuratively ? Besides the obvious (medicine, …), what kind of healing could it be ?

If I’m not mistaken, there’s a connection between healing and Chiron, right ? Then how should I interpret my Chiron/Moon/Vesta conjunction in Taurus / IX (forming a T-Square with Uranus in Scorpio / III and Sun/Venus/Jupiter in Leo / XII) ? Does this position also point towards healing ?

Tim, I totally recognize myself in what you said about overthinking and being prone to impulsive action. But even though my career is going quite well, I really need a change, as I’m getting bored to death… :)

Thanks again,

Julien
