I got this quote off another thread, and thought about posting it in that thread, but then realised it was probably unrelated....

I just know that Lilly used Regiomontanus, and that it's being used especially in Europe and in horary - but you already know that...

Anyway, you made me think!!
I'm currently studying horary, doing as many charts as possible, and reading out a whole number of books.
One thing I do often fail to do, though, is differentiate between Regiomontanus and Placidus references while taking notes. They were all simply general notes.

My question, then, is that if I've taken notes from, say, Lily, is it appropriate to apply his tips to a Placidus chart? or should I differentiate the two systems religiously while divining?

Has anyone else made this mistake?

Hello Neko Hakase,

most astrologers use the Regiomontanus house system for horaries. Some others use the Placidus system. However when reading an horary chart, it is important to use only one house system and stick to it.

In any case, rules of horary astrology apply regardless of the house system you use.

For instance, one of the rules for a chart's radicality says that if Saturn is in the first house then the question may be forged (this is only one of the possible interpretations of this placement of Saturn).

If you use Regiomontanus, and Saturn happens to be in the first house you can apply this rule. Rules of horary astrology stay the same regardless of the house system that you use.

So, if I am doing a chart on the Placidus system, I can't apply that rule?

It depends. If you do a chart using the Placidus system, and Saturn is in the first, you can use this rule.

What I meant is that you cannot do the following:

you cast a chart with Regiomontanus, see that Saturn is in the first and decide that you do not like it, so you cast the same chart again, but use Placidus or another house system,
