Hi,
This may sound ridiculous to those in the know, but how the hell do I resize or crop a scanned photo???????
Okay, so I'm sacnning a photo and it gets saved in 'pictures'. If I try and upload the image from there onto here, then it comes up as HUGE, far too large to be put on the forum, it would take up like three screens worth of space.
I cannot open the image into 'paint', because the images will not open in there. When I try to 'open file' and click on pictures, there is nothing there but white space as if there wasn't anything in it. I don't think I can even resize pictures in paint anyway, so where is this done.
All I need to know is how can I resize the photo to a reasonable size.
I have absolutely know mind whatsoever for these technicalities, and my cloud-cuckoo-land imagination isn't helping on this one, and I doubt a horary will reveal the answer.
When I first scan the image and it appears in the 'scanning thingy' on the screen, I am only given the option to flip or rotate the image, or zoom in on it with a magnifying glass. Thats about it. No options for cropping or resizing, and no instruction manual came with the scanner, just pamphlets describing how to set up.
:o > Help!!!

Draco,
3 things you may do:
1) to check if there is an option for your scanning software to change the scanning resolutions. The smaller resolution the smaller the image.
2) to download a image manipulaton software such as Gimpshop! (http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294) if it is the problem in Paint.
3) to send me the file to see if I can resize according to your needs.

I usually choose to view the scanned photo as a percentage of its original size (or select Zoom Out) and press Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen to copy the entire image appearing on my computer screen to the Clipboard. Then, I use a simple image editing program such as Paint and utilize the Select feature to draw a box around the desired part of the image, pressing Ctrl+X to temporarily remove it and place it on my Clipboard. Finally, I open a new screen and press Ctrl+V to paste the image on the blank canvas.
Hopefully, this image will help...I have circled the Select feature to help you more easily identify it

Hi three-leg,
Thankyou for your response. :)
I think, however, that I might have worked out where I was going wrong.
There is an icon on the desktop that appears to have been installed along with the installation of the scanner. I think that I or someone else who has used this machine must have clicked and dragged the 'user guide' icon to the bottom of the screen so that it was almost completely hidden in the corner.
I have since clicked on this icon and have found instructions for performing operations such as cropping and resizing, and I do now of course feel like such a fool.
I can't think that I would have clicked and dragged this icon out of view without noticing, so it was perhaps my sister who installed the scanner with me or my nephew, who thought that it would be fun to play a trick. I wasn't present all of the time. :x
As there is an icon which opens up a user guide this is why there is no manual.
I think that by following the instructions, I will probably be able to work out how to crop and resize pics.
3) to send me the file to see if I can resize according to your needs.
Thankyou for offering to do this for me, it is very kind of you. :D
However, should I be still without a clue as to what to do, even with the instructions (which would not be unusual for me, lol), then I may need your help after all. :?

Hiya Mav,
I hope you don't think that I had ignored your response, it's just that the posts are coming through late and I hadn't seen your post when I responded to three-leg, either that or we were typing at the same time. :?
Thankyou for that information, I will be sure to give this a try later when I have sent this.
You're a mine of technical information! 8)
By the way, when you:
press Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen to copy the entire image appearing on my computer screen to the Clipboard.
Is this is what is known as a 'screenshot'?
If so, I have been wanting to know how to do one of those for ages. lol.
People must find me so funny on here, have you noticed the quantity of posts by me asking for help upon technical things?
In the next life I vow to have better Uranus/Mercury configurations in my chart.
Cheers Mav,

Hi Draco,
Natally I have a trine formed between Uranus and Mercury. My younger brother who's major degree is computer science also have weak opposition between Uranus(Sag) and Mercury(Gem) and now he is in graduate school.
My knowledge on computer is actually not so good because my Mercury is retrograde in Pisces trine Uranus in Scorpio. Water signs don't help much about computer, right?
If you have time have a look at my natal chart and comment on it!

Yes, I have noticed this as well...very strange, indeed :|

Yep, that's correct! Enjoy your new technical know-how! :D

Not necessarily....water signs can be extremely creative. So just take another look at the aspects your Uranus and Mercury receive
I am realizing that when it comes to IT hard aspects to Mercury and Uranus, or their retrogradation, may indicate that the native has a potential to develop his talents for IT and informatics. While good Uranus/Mercury aspects may indicate a natural talent for mathematics, and perhaps give clumsy programmers.

This is actually an interesting idea for another thread: exactly what astrological indications may suggest a talent for computer technology?

Draco, if you're using Windows you can install a nice powertoy that adds a "Resize image" option to image menus
