You could consider me an astrology pre-schooler. I'm just starting out but am absolutely captivated by the whole thing. I've got an astrology book that helps you cast your chart and I'm on the chapter about trines and squares and such, but when I look at the corner of my chart, I see rows of triangles and unusual symbols and apart from them being under the symbols of the planets, I'm not sure what the other half of the grid means. What is bQ?
I know triangles are good, squares are difficulties.. that's about as far as I've gotten without being able to really figure out that grid.
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated :)
Here's the grid I'm talking about, in the lower left corner.

TrueCap,
those are simply all the different aspects. There are minor and major aspects.
The triangles are referred to as trines, not triangles. I'm sure your book will describe the rest of the aspects to you.
bQ stands for barbecue and is short for BBQ. :p No, I'm teasing, it stands for bi-quintile, a minor aspect.
Cheers

Hahaha! Trines. I knew that! :D *puts on dunce cap*
As you can tell, I'm still trying to wrap my head around anything more advanced than knowing my sun sign, moon sign and ascendant ;)
The book does tell me what they are, I'm just not sure how to read that grid. Why does each sign group have lesser and lesser amounts of symbols below it? It almost looks like something should go to the left of that grid so I can tell "what goes where" in relation to my chart. Does that make sense?
I'm ALL for a Barbecue! :D

The grid is actually easy to read once you catch the pattern.
The easiest way to show you is by example.
Let's say you want to see the aspect between the Moon and Neptune. Find the Neptune symbol (the trined fork) and instead of reading down the column, read to the left... keep going until you get to the Moon column. You will find a square in your grid point.... so Moon is Square Neptune. With that same to the left reading you will also find your Neptune is square to Saturn, and square to Mars, and sextile (astriks) to Venus in addition to the square to the Moon.
Hope this helps,:)

The symbols are mathematical aspects, eg: conjunction -+ 8' same for square and opposition, sextiles -+ 6', trines=120' qunincunxs 150'
Here's a great site for exploring aspects and lots more. ;)

There is a small table in the RIGHT CORNER too. I see letters A, E, W, F and this must be Air, Earth, Water and Fire. But what do do letters above mean (the C, F and M)?
Thank you
