Hello all, I very recently started taking up an interest in astrology about a week ago, as I've never considered myself religious in any sense, but did have a sense of spirituality. One which, despite the past seven or eight years of destruction and misfortune in my life (I'm still trying to figure out what caused that whole chain of events and why I didn't see some of it coming), I'm surprised I'm still open to that level of vulnerability again.

Anyway, as a young scientist, I'm naturally very analytical and searching for Truth, yet at the same time, I'm also willing to look beyond just the physical world for that Truth, provided there is some proof to justify the claims.

I went ahead and created my natal chart and attempted to make some connections, though it would be helpful if someone could explain the deeper meanings of them. I've tried reading a few sites online, as well as through the forum, to get a general gist of how things go. I'm quickly trying to learn the twelve houses, but can't seem to understand how they work together across the red (challenges) and blue (strengths) lines. Would someone be willing to help guide me and teach me a bit, as I'm getting lost around this stage: geocities.com / wilsontctc / Step_5_Adding_pictures ?

As far as initial readings, here's what I've got so far in a small text file on my computer:

Sun sign: Leo
Moon sign: Scorpio
Asc sign: Virgo

Introvert

Self: 6 Depends on self
Others: 4

~ 0 degrees: Descendent: Extreme Other
~ 90 degrees: Midheaven: Extreme Outer

~ 270 degrees: Imum Coeli: Extreme Inner

Beginnings:

Venus: 4 Libra 53'35" Physical
Libra modifies Venus focused on Relationships

True Node: 22 Aries 57'12" direct
Aries modifies True Node focused on Physical

Chiron: 20 Gemini 3'40" "Healer"
Gemini modifies Chiron focused on Home

---------------------------------------
Virgo Rising Sign

I'm not sure if I did the astro-sentences right, as they don't seem to really fit my personality at all based off of the descriptions of alabe.com and astro.com when they generate the various readings.

It would be helpful to figure out what caused that calm that I managed to get myself to this past Sunday night, as well as what other events I should watch out for, as I seem to keep getting blindsided through my naivety, and while my spirit may be strong (Sun in Leo in 12th house), the emotions have been rather badly burned through life.

I'm also not sure if my current location would help anyone, but I'm in Virginia Beach, VA area for a good part of 20 out of the past 22 years of my life.

Sorry to double post, but I'm starting to at least recognize squares and trines, now, which means I've got a few things down. I don't have a clue what the effects on any of these are, nor on what the effect of the Ascendent is, but here's a shot:

Leo Sun square Scorpio Moon (red)
Libra Venus square Cap. Neptune (red)
a weakened Pis square Sag. Uranus (red)
Pisces Jupiter square Cap. Uranus
Sag. Saturn square Ascendent

----
Leo Sun trine Sag Uranus (blue)
Leo Mercury (barely) trine Sag Saturn (blue) (practicality?)
Cap Mars trine Ascendant (not sure what the Ascendant does)
Cap Neptune trine Ascendant (same as above)
----
Moon conjunct Pluto in Scorpio (might explain heightened emotions, depression, anxiety, etc etc)

Not sure what the sextiles mean, but here:

Scorpio Moon sextile Capricorn Mars
Scorpio Moon sextile Ascendant
Leo Mercury sextile Libra Venus
Libra Venus sextile Sag. Saturn
Capricorn Neptune sextile Scorpio Pluto
Scorpio Pluto sextile Ascendant

Not sure what the quincruxes, mean, but here they are:

Leo Sun quincrux Pisces Jupiter (green lines)
Leo Mercury quincrux Neptune

Explain?

welcome, astrop86! Good luck on your astro-journeys!

To get you started in chart reading, I would recommend moderator Tim Wilson's website, which will lead you through the process of chart reading, step by step.

I would also recommend a book or two, available at New Age book stores or via an Internet book seller. One is Steven Forrest, The Inner Sky--a good primer. The other is Robert Hand, Planets in Youth: good for people of any age.

I would suggest that you continue to think of a horoscope as giving you "astro sentences", in which:

(1) a planet is the "what", or the noun or subject of a sentence.
(2) a sign shows "how" or "in what manner" a planet operates.
(3) a house shows "where" or the "domain of life" in which a planet or sign operates.
(4) an aspect also shows "how" or "in what manner" a planet operates--but together with one or more other planets.

Obviously it gets more complicated than this, but hopefully this will get you started. Consequently, you can see that "cookbook" formulae have some value, but if you multiply 10 planets time 12 signs and 12 houses, there are too many data bytes to fit tidily into neat personality descriptions. Astrology is a grand work of synthesis of many data bits and pieces.

One problem that I have with a lot of pop astrology is that it deals with signs as though they were simply a collection of fixed personality traits. I would rather think of signs as having some kind of growth-oriented goal or end-point. With Leo, it is self-expression. With Scorpio, it is experiencing the truth on a very emotionally intense level. With Virgo, it is a quest for perfection, forwarded by an analytical approach to life.

Re; aspects:

oppositions mean two planets' interests oppose one another.
quincunx (150 degrees) mean they don't understand one another: an adjustment is required.
trines mean harmony and easy flow of energy
squares mean challenges: the "itch" that won't "scratch"
sextiles mean excitement
conjunction means two or more planets function together, like a very close couple.

Yeah, I tried Tim's website. I got about as far as the fifth page before I started getting frustrated with it. I did try a few of the astro sentences, but haven't a clue if I got any of them right.

OK, so the way I would look at it is like this: Mercury and Saturn are the "what" or noun/subject. Mercury generally means your thought patterns and communication. Saturn can show where we feel limited and not-good-enough, but also where structure, self-discipline, and hard work can pay off. As An energy, Mercury makes connections, whereas Saturn tends to both limit things and make them more concrete.

In Cancer, Mercury wants to act with deep feelings and emotion (in a sentence a sign works like an adverb or adjective.) "Feelingly". "Emotionally." In Sagittarius, planets like to expand and maybe philosophize. This is a bit out-of-character for limiting, concrete Saturn, but in Sag we might say that Saturn acts expansively, yet within careful structures.

Your Mercury is in the 11th house of friends and organizations (and wishes for the future) whereas Saturn is in your thought and communication house. Hmmm...we see a pattern here. Saturn is also closely conjunct your 4th house cusp (home), whose natural ruler is the moon, the ruler of Cancer. So here is another pattern.

Then your Mercury and Saturn are trined, suggesting they operate like friends, rather than enemies or strangers.

To put this altogether, when you become more experienced, you will use additional chart info., but just to look at how far we've come. I would guess that:

You are a careful (Saturn) thinker (Mercury). You probably have good (trine) analytical abilities (Mercury) because you know how to discipline (Saturn) your thinking (Mercury) while at the same time, you don't lose sight of the human element (Cancer, 11th house) nor the Big Picture (Sagittarius. And note also that Mercury trine to Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius. More reinforcement!).

And to contine....just make sure that your very powerful emotions (Moon conjunct Pluto in Scorpio) don't harm (square) your good judgement (Mercury, Saturn in Sagittarius.)

But start by grasping your sun, moon, and rising sign. Then follow up with the other players.

I hope this helps.

Yeah, very skilled analytically and am working to put that to good use (hopefully with graduate school next year). The emotions ... hehehe, yeah, they've only tried to self-destruct on me three or more times (with marks to show) :(

I am concerned about the squares of Venus and Mars and Venus and Neptune, especially in the 4th and 5th houses. I'm pulling this from Wikipedia as I'm still not sure where to study things online, but:

Venus: Relationships and partnerships of all kinds, romantic love, desire for beauty, harmony and co-operation, personal comforts and possessions, the arts, fashions and social life

Mars: Urge for action, personal energy and drive, assertiveness and aggression, sexuality and passions. Sport, physical activity and competition

Neptune: Mysticism, transcendence, psychic impulses, feelings of sensitivity and empathy, care of the sick, the mentally ill, animals, charities, religious institutions, hospitals, prisons, retreat from society, artistic inspiration, spirituality, vulnerability to drugs.

4th House: The home and family, the mother or mother figure, caring for someone or something. Conservation. The beginning and end of life.

5th House: Pleasures and leisure, holidays, games and gambling. Children. Creativity. Love affairs and sex for fun rather than a deep relationship.

I'm also worried about that Mars - Neptune conjunction in the 4th and 5th houses with the square coming out of Venus as well. Putting those patterns together ... well, I've seen the after effects, as they have unfortunately been a part of the past seven years of my life. Major karmic debt inherited from that.

Presently, the idea is just to skip relationships, dating, and marriage and just focus on the academics. It seems to be a lot safer of a route, in many regards.

It might be better for me to figure out a list of what the planets and signs do.

So far, I've got:

Aries: self-hood
Taurus: money, resources, self-worth, value
Gemini: communications
Cancer: ?
Leo: self-expression
Virgo: details, health, well-being
Libra: co-operation
Scorpio: passions
Sagittarius: ability to judge, "big picture", philosophy
Capricorn: control and organization
Aquarius: ideas
Pisces: beliefs

Sun: personal strength
Mercury: inner thoughts, intelligence
Venus: relationships and love
Mars: aggression, sexuality, competitiveness
Jupiter: personal growth,expansion
Saturn: contraction, limitations, control / caution
Uranus: invention, rebellious behavior
Neptune: sensitivity, mysticism, empathy, isolation
Pluto: intensification, wealth, power

Houses:
1st: Being
2nd: Physical
3rd: Thinking
4th: Home
5th: Self-Expression
6th: Daily Work
7th: Relationships
8th: Transformation
9th: Expansion
10th: Duty
11th: Friends
12th: Spiritual

Can you add in Cancer and make any corrections that I may have missed out?

I'm not sure if I did the astro-sentences right...

It might be better for me to figure out a list of what the planets and signs do.
Aries: self-hood...
Mars: aggression, sexuality, competitiveness...
Houses:
1st: Being

This is the reason why I created the astrological interpretation site: many books say things in such a way that beginners get to seeing signs, planets, and houses as being completely different, when actually the only difference between them is they have different FUNCTIONS. The SIGN is there to modify the PLANET, the PLANET is there to focus on the HOUSE. But there is a link between the sign, house, and planet in terms of MEANING. So, for example: Aries, Mars, and 1rst house are all about "being". So, instead of having three different definitions to memorize (a different one for the sign, the planet, and the house), you only have ONE "keyword" to memorize. This makes astrology simple and very easy to learn.

But even easy things take some amount of effort, so the MOST important thing is to learn "astro-sentencing". Once you "get that", you can do WHATEVER you want to do in astrology.

So enough with the promo and onto the lesson! Very nice job at getting started and starting to work out the astro-sentences! You now know that you focus more on yourself than on others, and this "self" focus is more about your "Beginnings" (i.e., you use your self-awareness to develop an awareness of your inner world). In addition, you also know (but didn't mention originally) that you focus more on your "inner world" (7 planets at the bottom (inner world) part of the chart and 3 planets at the top (outer world) part of the chart). This is NOT the same thing as being an "introvert" ("introvert" is a psychological not an astrological term), but simply that you focus "inside". For example, a stage actor has an "inner focus" since they are very focused on how they do in their stage performance...but certainly no one could call them "introverted"! ;)

Referring back to the chart on Step 5:
http://www.geocities.com/wilsontctc/Step-5-signsplanetshouses3.gif

Notice the "keyword" is for the SIGN and PLANET as well as for the HOUSE. The sign associated with the "keyword" is the picture OUTside the circle and the planet associated with the "keyword" is the picture INside the circle. So, for example, "Expansion" is about the 9th house but ALSO about Sagittarius (the picture outside the circle) and Jupiter (the picture inside the circle).

In your "astro-sentences" remember it is SIGN modifies PLANET focused on HOUSE. You wrote out the sign, planet, and house indications correctly on top but didn't seem to write them out correctly below. For example you wrote:
Venus: 4 Libra 53'35" Physical
Libra modifies Venus focused on Relationships
The top part is correct: the planet is Venus, the sign is Libra, and the house is the "Physical" house, but the bottom part indicates Venus is focused on the "Relationships" house which is NOT correct: as you indicated above, Venus is focused on the "Physical" house.

So let's first go through some of your astro-sentences and change them so they indicate the correct house:
- Libra modifies Venus focused on Physical
- Scorpio modifies Pluto focused on Thinking

Now do this for the remaining 8 "astro-sentences" so that they indicate the correct house and post your results here. For example, instead of "Libra modifies Venus focused on Relationships", the correct astro-sentence (listed above) is "Libra modifies Venus focused on Physical".

All we did in this step is to write out the "astro-sentence" in the form of SIGN modifies PLANET focused on HOUSE (and correct the house indications you originally put down).

Now I will add in some of the keywords, using the graphic above:
- Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical
- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking

There! Now you have an idea of how the astro-sentences work. Go over these examples, seeing how SIGN modifies PLANET focused on house. Go back to your 8 other "astro-sentences" and add in the sign and planet information and post your results here.

Yes, it takes a little effort and focus. But the result is you turn the impossible task of trying to convert many different definitions for each of the signs, planets, and houses into a much easier task of learning the 12 "keywords" that apply to the signs, planets, and houses.

Simply,

Tim

Great! You added in the HOUSE information. So you have done the 1rst step of what I talked about. There is still one more step to do: add in the SIGN keywords and the PLANET keywords.

Referring back to the chart on Step 5:
http://www.geocities.com/wilsontctc/Step-5-signsplanetshouses3.gif

Here is my original message, slightly edited
add in some of the keywords, using the graphic above:

- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking

There! Now you have an idea of how the astro-sentences work. Go over these examples, seeing how the SIGN "keyword" modifies the PLANET "keyword" focused on house "keyword". Go back to your 8 other "astro-sentences" and add in the sign "keyword" and planet "keyword" information and post your results here.
You have "jumped into" trying to understand what the "astro-sentence" means without taking the time to write out each astro-sentence. So, for each of the remaining 8 planets above, write out the full astro-sentence. So write out the full "astro-sentence" (i.e., WITH the "keywords" for the signs and the planets) for these remaining planets:
- Scorpio modifies Moon focused on Thinking
- Sagittarus modifies Saturn focused on Thinking
- Sagittarius modifies Uranus focused on Home
- Capricorn modifies Neptune focused on Home
- Capricorn modifies Mars focused on Self-Expression
- Pisces modifies Jupiter focused on Relationships
- Leo modifies Mercury focused on Friends
- Leo modifies Sun focused on Spiritual

So write out the FULL "astro-sentence" for each of these 8 planets.

Step by step,

Tim

Yet another attempt (persistence)

- Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical

- Sagittarus ("big picture") modifies Saturn (control / limiting) focused on Thinking

- Capricorn (control) modifies Neptune (isolation / sensitivity) focused on Home

- Capricorn (control) modifies Mars (aggression) focused on Self-Expression

astrop,

Great work! You are really coming along! I noticed you added in a few "alternate words" instead of the original 12 "keywords". This is tempting, but it will prevent you from seeing patterns in the keywords. For right now ONLY use the 12 "keywords" as given on the astrologigal website. I'm going to list out your "astro-sentences" putting BACK IN the "keywords". I also noticed that for one of the planets which has TWO keywords you only listed ONE, so I am adding in "[]" the missing keyword:
- Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical
- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking
- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking
- Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking
- Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home
- Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home
- Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression
- Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships
- Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends
- Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual

One simple thing we can do is to look at what "keyword" REPEATS in the "astro-sentence". If something repeats then it is IMPORTANT. The more times it repeats, the more important it is.

Now let's list out all the times a "keyword" appears MORE than once:
- "relationships" appears 3 times
- "physical" appears 2 times
- "transformation" appears 3 times
- "thinking" appears 4 times

Now list out all the other times each keyword is mentioned more than once. It will take a little effort, but you will start to see the "pattern underneath the picture".

Patterning,

I did ask earlier when I posted if I had gotten the keywords for each of the things correct, obviously I was a bit mistaken. Thank you for the corrections.

- Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical
- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking
- Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking
- Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking

- Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships
- Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends
- Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual

Now list out all the other times each keyword is mentioned more than once. It will take a little effort, but you will start to see the "pattern underneath the picture".

daily-work appears 1 time

Okay, I tried to skip ahead to the next section on page 6, and here are the results so far, though I haven't inserted the retrogrades (delays) yet. Hopefully its right, as I've spent a few hours on it now, rather than doing my homework as I should have been.

Inferior Planets: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Moon
Superior Planets: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto

I used this rule in determining what affected what, ie, Neptune would affect Venus, not the other way around.

The terms were pulled from wilsontc's site, as well as wikipedia and the stair-step chart at the bottom of the natal charts on AstroDeist.

Conjunctions:

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking intensifies Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home intensifies Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression.

Squares:

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home stresses Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships.

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking stresses Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking stresses Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual..

Trines:

Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual.

Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends

Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Sextiles:

Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression goes easily with Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking.

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking goes easily with Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home.

Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking goes easily with Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical goes easily with Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Quincrux:

Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships needs to be adjusted by Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home needs to be adjusted by Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Semi-sextile:

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking will need to make an effort on Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home will need to make an effort on Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking.

SesquiQuadrate

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home somewhat stresses Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual.

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking somewhat stresses Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships

Nice job! Notice that the "keywords" that appear MOST are "thinking" and "self-expression" indicating that "thinking things out" and "expressing yourself" are the most important thing. In other words, you want to get the details of things right and you want to be recognized for what you do.

This part is very true. Do I go ahead and attempt to link up the planets as I did earlier using the same methodology, using the various phrases for square, conjunct, trine, sextile, etc etc?

I am a bit confused as to how and where retrograde, AC, and MC come into play, as I noticed I do have three retrograde planets in my natal chart.

Great job at writing out all the astro-sentences. Using other explanations of the aspects is fine, as long as you are consistent in how you apply them in the "astro-sentences". In other words, if you use the word "intensifies" for conjunction, ONLY use the word "intensifies" when writing out aspects (i.e., do not use some other word or words as a substitute for intensifies). For example, if you describe Venus conjunct Jupiter as Venus conjunct (intensifies) Jupiter in a chart, do not later write out Saturn conjunct (is combined with) Neptune. Use the same word or words: if you start out using "intensifies" use this word ALL the time. Making your wording consistent will eliminate a LOT of confusion in understanding what things mean in the chart.

Which brings me to your "astro-sentence"...what does this mean?:
Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking intensifies Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking

This means:
There is a LOT of transformation being focused on thinking

Now it is your turn. Go through each of your aspect "astro-sentences" and write them out in one phrase that gets to the "heart" of what the aspect information is all about.

Step by step,

Tim

Small correction: the aspect is called a "quincunx".

astrop,

You asked:
I am a bit confused as to how and where retrograde, AC, and MC come into play, as I noticed I do have three retrograde planets in my natal chart.

Don't think about retrograde planets (or other non-planet things) for right now. Retrogrades are EXTRA information that goes beyond sign/planet/house combinations. To keep things simple and make sure you get the basics, ONLY look at your aspect "astro-sentences".

Taking it slowly,

Tim

Edit: I have attached your chart below, with fewer aspects than at astro.com

Alright, let's try this a bit by bit. I'll just do the conjunctions, squares, and trines in this post to make sure I'm doing it right first. (Thank you wilsontc btw for being patient and willing to help me). However, these will be seen through a prism of experience of my life so far.

Conjunctions:

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking intensifies Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking.

As you said, a lot of transformations in thinking.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home intensifies Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression.

A strong sense of self-expression by feeling an obligation to be spiritual.
(Eh, I've honestly been one to reject most religions, as the only one I found interesting and worth substance to be Buddhism at most).

Squares:

Capricorn (duty) modifies Neptune (spirituality) focused on Home stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Physical relationships are suppressed by a spiritual duty at home.
(Religion plays little to no role in my home life)

Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home stresses Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships.

(Need some help here, the expansions are confusing me)

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Pluto (transformation) focused on Thinking stresses Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Transformational thinking causes issues in considering my outward appearance towards friends.

Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical.

Physical relationships are hampered by a sense of duty and self-expression.

Scorpio (transformation) modifies Moon (home) focused on Thinking stresses Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual..

Spiritual self-expression is hampered by transformational thinking in the home.

Trines:

Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spiritual.

Spiritual self-expression is expanded or reinforced by friends or family.
(Only makes some sense in very limited circumstances)

Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends

Spiritual expansion in relationships helps me think about how to express myself around friends.
(Um, that makes no sense)

Sagittarus (expansion) modifies Saturn (duty) focused on Thinking helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Mercury (thinking[/daily work]) focused on Friends.

Expansion of a sense of duty helps me think about how I express myself around friends.

Yeah, I'm gonna need a lot of help here. Could you expand a bit more on the roles of self-expression and expansion?

I have come to the point where I need to use a different chart than astro.com. It's an OK chart for general use, but now that we are "drilling down" in the details of the chart, the astro.com chart uses some very wide aspects which, in my opinion, are too wide. So, in the new chart (posted above), you only have two trines and the Neptune conjunct Mars goes away. I have also only listed aspects between planets so any other aspects to points in the chart also go away.

More coming soon,

Tim

astrop,

You asked:

It's good to "know more", but if we "know" about something that isn't there then we get an untrue sense of things. By limiting the size of aspects, we focus in on the interconnections that are "really there" in the chart and come to see things how they are.

Really really,

Okay, so far, these are the main things I pull out:

* I think I see a YOD pointing at Leo Mercury in the 11th house (?)

* I interpret the Venus square Neptune as "quit daydreaming about the perfect love, you aren't going to find it" (far too much Disney-fication of relationships growing up)

* I see the Venus square Mars as "stop being so aggressive in love, its not going to happen"

* I see a bit of the Sun trine Uranus as expressing a strong rebellious nature

* Finally, that blasted Moon - Pluto conjunction squaring with the Sun and Mercury that causes very intense emotional mood swings. What fun that brings.

Yeah, I'm gonna need a lot of help here. Could you expand a bit more on the roles of self-expression and expansion?

Self-expression is about how you express who you are to those around you. One example is an actor on a stage, who expresses themselves to everyone in the audience. Expansion is about opening up to the world around you. So it is about our knowledge, understanding, learning, opportunities, etc.

And now a note about "spirituality". "Spirituality" is about the interconnection of all things with each other. I am you and we are he and we are altogether kind of energy. So the energy of "spirituality" (Neptune) breaks down and dissolves things in whatever house it is in. With Neptune in your 4th house, there is an ability to be "at home" with spirituality. But, like all things in your chart, even if the possibility is there, if you are not aware of it, then you can't use it.

You did mention Buddhism, indicating that the Buddhistical idea of "one-ness" and "wholeness" is appealing to you. With Neptune (spirituality) in your 4th house, you might have more spirituality in your "home base" than you know...or have been aware of up until now. Here is something that is a little more "advanced" but it is important to mention now: planets close to the cusp (edge) of a house are in BOTH houses. Your Neptune is CLOSE to the 5th house, so it is also IN the 5th house (self-expression). This means your Sun (self-expression) is focused in Neptune's house (12th house) and your Neptune (spirituality) is focused in Sun's house (5th house). This indicates your self-expression and your spirituality reinforce each other.

It also suggests if you deny your spirituality you are "shutting down" your ability to express yourself. And now seems the right thing to introduce an "expansion" of the "keywords" to interpret:
Sagittarius (expansion) modifies Uranus (friends) focused on Home stresses Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion) focused on Relationships.

Keeping the "keywords" the same, here are some alternate ways to explain the "keywords":
Sagittarius (expansion, also religion, wisdom) modifies Uranus (friends, also rebellion, science) focused on Home stresses Pisces (spirituality) modifies Jupiter (expansion, also religion, wisdom) focused on Relationships.

This suggests that your interest in science is a kind of expanded rebellion "home base" against having any relationship with spirituality and religion. As you originally said:
Anyway, as a young scientist, I'm naturally very analytical and searching for Truth, yet at the same time, I'm also willing to look beyond just the physical world for that Truth, provided there is some proof to justify the claims.
You want to know the "truth" of things but you may be using science as a way to define what truths you will and will not accept. Remember that "spirituality" and "religion" are not by their nature "anti-science". You can have spirituality, religion, and science together if you are open to it.

And now a trine that indicates this is all possible:
Sagittarius (expansion, also religion, wisdom) modifies Uranus (friends, also science, rebellion) focused on Home helps Leo (self-expression) modifies Sun (self-expression) focused on Spirituality

You see, there is an easy connection in you from your spirituality to your beloved science...if you are open to it.

Now you see the power of astrology to get us to see things from a completely different point of view: from outside of us.

With a different view,

Tim

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to think on that one, as I've been internally wrestling with where spiritually mixes with science (namely in my case, physics and astronomy). Religion I've always seen as man-made, as I've recognized the good that is causes, as well as many of the horrors that it has driven people to do...

Next up I guess is to figure out where my loneliness and feelings of necessity to be cut off from the world, particularly in relationships, stems from and if there is a way to correct it, or if I just need to spend a lot of time fixing myself. As I mentioned to someone else, after the past seven or eight years, I've got a lot of bad karma that has been built up and while the human side of it has come back to bite me, I'm curious what the boomerang is going to do.

Wait, so "Home" doesn't necessarily mean where I physically live, but moreso where I am most comfortable?

wilsontc

astrop,

You asked:
Wait, so "Home" doesn't necessarily mean where I physically live, but moreso where I am most comfortable?

Now it's time for a little review of what you've learned in going through the astrological website ( http://www.geocities.com/wilsontctc ) . Let's set the "wayback machine" ;) for Step 4, where you learned that "Emotional Action" is about "home". From that point forward we used the "keyword" "home" to describe the concept of "Emotional Action". So the "keyword" "home" always was a "shortcut" to describing the overall concept of "Emotional Action". So the "keyword""home" is about the "actions" that make us "feel things". One way of saying this is our being "at home" with what we do.

And now I that you have written out all the "keywords", I can now mention that there are other words you can use to "expand out" the meanings of the "core keywords". A listing of all these words are past Step 6 in the "Final Thoughts" section in the "Advanced Chart Interpretation" section (go to Step 6, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on "Final Thoughts", go to "Advanced Chart Interpretation" and click on the link "advanced chart interpretation".

So, for the "keyword" home you will see:
(home, also emotions, nurture, unconscious)
indicating these are "extensions" of the "keyword" "home". Our "home" is our "emotional center", so "emotions" has to do with our home. Going back to the "astro-sentence" and using this "extended keyword" we get:
- Neptune (spirituality) focused in the 4th house (home, also emotions)

This suggests that your spirituality is an important base for your emotional center. So rejecting your spirituality can "cut out the legs" from your emotional sense.

You have done a GREAT job with creating the "astro-sentences". Now you can use these "extensions" to see HOW you are using the "keywords" in your life.

Extending the basics,

Tim

astrop,

You said:
Next up I guess is to figure out where my loneliness and feelings of necessity to be cut off from the world, particularly in relationships, stems from and if there is a way to correct it, or if I just need to spend a lot of time fixing myself.

And now that you have done the "astro-sentences" and figured out the aspects you can "drill down" into these basic astrological issues. You now know the energy of relationships is Venus (relationships). So we find the Venus "astro-sentence" aspect that you wrote out:
Capricorn (duty) modifies Mars (being) focused on Self-Expression stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical/relationships) focused on Physical
Now that you have this basic "core keyword" "astro-sentence" we can go to the "Advanced Chart Interpretation" and add in a few "extensions" of the "keywords" to get:
- Capricorn (duty, also structure) modifies Mars (being, also action) focused on Self-Expression, also dating stresses Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical, also personal values/relationships) focused on Physical, also personal values

So your structured actions in dating stress your relationships focused on your values

In other words the structured actions you take in dating cause challenges with what you value in relationships

On the level of "pure energy" (i.e., only using the planets), your actions (Mars) stress (square) your relationships (Venus). This "stress" is about the challenge between dating (5th house) and your personal values (2nd house).

There, you see, you DID get something out of this exercise! And other little "secrets" like this are also "hidden" in your chart. For example, keep in mind that the Aquarius, Uranus, and 11th house "keyword" "friends" is ALSO about "science". Add in "Science" as an "also" everywhere you see "friends" (i.e., so the "astro-sentence" becomes "(friends, also science)" ) and you will get a CLEARER view of what "science" means to you. But now back to our originally scheduled program! :D

You used the word "stresses" and I have seen that used before, but to me "stresses" isn't that useful a word. I think, "Sure there are "stresses", I KNOW that! What do I DO with the "stresses" is what I want to know!" So, instead, I use the longer term for "square" of "energy needs to be combined with". Let's go back to the "stresses" word and put in "energy needs to be combined with":

- Capricorn (duty, also structure) modifies Mars (being, also action) focused on Self-Expression, also dating square (energy needs to be combined with) Libra (relationships) modifies Venus (physical, also personal values/relationships) focused on Physical, also personal values

In other words the structured actions you take in dating need to be combined with what you value in relationships

This new version gives us a little more information. It suggests that you have a very structured way that you want to date. And this way NEEDS to go with your personal values. If your personal values don't "match" the date...then any "relating" is NOT going to happen. The challenge is to make sure you don't try to "push" (take action in dating) on people to GET them to value what you value in the relationship. In other words, if the dating doesn't match up with your personal values...it's time to move on.

This may mean there is a LOT of moving on in dating and relating, but it also means that when you GET your dating actions to get together with your personal values while relating, THEN that relationship will "go somewhere"! :)

So it will take time, but being aware of the energy that is driving this exchange in dating and relating will help you to more clearly focus on how to use this energy best.

Dating and relating,

Tim

I suggest continuing to use the "astro-sentences" when describing astrological aspects. The "astro-sentences" contain a CLEAR description of the energies and issues involved and also suggest possible solutions. So, as mentioned in a previous post:
Venus (relationships) square (energy needs to be combined with) Mars (being, also action)

tells you MORE than simply some sort of problem exists but also suggests a SOLUTION to the problem.

If you skip the step of "astro-sentencing" you risk becoming frustrated with what you THINK the problem is and not coming to understanding what the REAL problem is (e.g., "that blasted Moon - Pluto conjunction".

Problem and solution,

astrop,

You asked:
Wait, so "Home" doesn't necessarily mean where I physically live, but moreso where I am most comfortable?

It occurred to me after I responded to this that other people might also be confused about the "astro-sentences" and expect to use them "as is" for all situations. So, based on your question, I have rewritten the description on the bottom of Step 6 to make it clearer that "extended keywords" is an often necessary next step to take in making sense out of the "astro-sentence. And then I rewrote the "Final Thoughts" section replacing the "Advanced Astrological Interpretation" section with an "Extended Keywords" section. All this based on your quite understandable confusion on what to do with the "astro-sentences" once you get them finished. So thanks for your interest!

Learning all the time,

Tim

Wow, thanks. Okay, as you said, I went ahead and made the necessary corrections. This is going to be information overload on me, though I did put in the retrogrades as they typically only mean a delay in action, but here we are right now:

Conjunctions:
Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Pluto (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) focused on Thinking intensifies Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Moon (home, also emotions, nurture, unconscious) focused on Thinking.

Powerful emotions can control thinking. (Very true, and they often do)

Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies retrograde Neptune (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) focused on Home (delays) intensifies Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies Mars (being, also action, anger) focused on Self-Expression.

Squares:

Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies retrograde Neptune (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) focused on Home energy needs to be combined with Libra (relationships, also love, beauty, art) modifies Venus (physical/relationships, also personal desires, personal values, personal money, personal possessions, food) focused on Physical.

Sagittarius (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) modifies retrograde Uranus (friends, also innovation, science, independence, rebellion, unstructuring, restructuring, television, computers, Internet, electricity, astrology) focused on Home energy needs to be combined with Pisces (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) modifies retrograde Jupiter (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) focused on Relationships.

Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Pluto (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) focused on Thinking energy needs to be combined with Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Mercury (thinking / daily work, also writing, talking, communicating, details, sales,
joking)) focused on Friends.

Powerful and controlling thoughts of sex challenges ways of thinking of friends and dating.

Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies Mars (being, also action, anger) focused on Self-Expression energy needs to be combined with Libra (relationships, also love, beauty, art) modifies Venus (physical/relationships, also personal desires, personal values, personal money, personal possessions, food) focused on Physical

Structured actions taken in dating cause challenges with what you value in physical relationships.

Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Moon (home, also emotions, nurture, unconscious) focused on Thinking energy needs to be combined with Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Sun (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) focused on Spiritual.

Powerful emotions that impact thinking cause challenges with spiritual self-expression.

Trines:

Sagittarius (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) modifies retrograde Uranus (friends, also innovation, science, independence, rebellion, unstructuring, restructuring, television, computers, Internet, electricity, astrology) focused on Home helps Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Sun (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) focused on Spiritual.

A focus on philosophy, science, astrology and humor of the self helps spiritual self-expression.

Pisces (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) modifies retrograde Jupiter (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) focused on Relationships helps Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Mercury (thinking / daily work, also writing, talking, communicating, details, sales, joking) focused on Friends.

Sagittarus (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) modifies Saturn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) focused on Thinking helps Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Mercury (thinking / daily work, also writing, talking, communicating, details, sales, joking) focused on Friends.

Disciplined wisdom in thinking helps self-expression of communicating with friends.

Sextiles:

Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies Mars (being, also action, anger) focused on Self-Expression goes easily with Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Moon (home, also emotions, nurture, unconscious) focused on Thinking.

Scorpio (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) modifies Pluto (transformation, also power, control, psychology, occult, sex, death) focused on Thinking goes easily with Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies retrograde Neptune (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) focused on Home.

Sagittarus (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) modifies Saturn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) focused on Thinking goes easily with Libra (relationships, also love, beauty, art) modifies Venus (physical/relationships, also personal desires, personal values, personal money, personal possessions, food) focused on Physical.

Libra (relationships, also love, beauty, art) modifies Venus (physical/relationships, also personal desires, personal values, personal money, personal possessions, food) focused on Physical goes easily with Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Mercury (thinking / daily work, also writing, talking, communicating, details, sales,

Quincrux:

Pisces (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) modifies retrograde Jupiter (expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor) focused on Relationships needs to be adjusted by Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Sun (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) focused on Spiritual.

Capricorn (duty, also career, authority, discipline, structure, restriction) modifies retrograde Neptune (spirituality, also music, artistry, subconscious, confusion, idealization, fantasy, media personality, drugs, addiction) focused on Home needs to be adjusted by Leo (self-expression, dating (as in going on a date), creativity, performing arts, hobbies, photography, children) modifies Mercury (thinking / daily work, also writing, talking, communicating, details, sales,

Hey Astrop86

I never knew Tim had a website so I looked at it and it seems very well done, with a good guide on interpretation.

However, I found that I learned astrology better when I stopped focusing on keywords and started a different approach. An approach more orientated towards theory and characterisation. Instead of thinking about keywords, I started reading descriptions about the Zodiac, and about what is represents as a whole- the cycle of the human condition, the evolution of the individual etc.

There is a definite method to the madness, and maybe if you read up on that, you might find it easier to understand why certain placements are associated with certain traits.

That is what worked for me, although I'm still learning too!

astrop86
01-24-2009, 11:06 PM
It might help. Right now, I'm just kinda guessing my way through the descriptions, based on what I know of myself.

Ofcourse, by being subjective like that, it definitely ruins any chance of me discovering any new information about myself in this way, which honestly is one of the reasons I was willng to take this idea on. The past seven years or so haven't been kind to me, and though I may be young still, I feel as though I've come to the point where I can't afford to make any more mistakes, which means I have to learn to know myself and my abilities and disadvantages very well.

The_Sundance_Kid
01-24-2009, 11:22 PM
I am very keen on the subjective approach. An objective one is looking at some words and building your life around them, telling yourself that your life is like this because the chart says so. I don't think that helps.

I think introspection is a far better way. And I would think that, because I'm a heavy Scorpio (you will find out what that means later :P )

I think of the chart as a process of self revelation. No chart will tell you the real reasons behind your personality. You even said you are guessing your way through the description based on what you know of yourself. So deep down you have an innate self knowledge which you should work on tapping into. Someone famous said the birth chart is a mirror, you see what you want to see, and you interpret what you see how you want to interpret what you want to see. There is no externality.

If a birth chart crumpled up in an empty wood, would anyone hear it?

astrop86, you are really fortunate to have a super astrologer like Tim giving you a tutorial!

But speaking of Saturn rendering things concrete--it is important not to over-structure things. One of the kickers about astrology is that each planet, sign, and house has multiple meanings, and they are often very different. I would read Venus square Mars (two sexy planets) as indicating that sex is important to you, but it may be so emotionally charged (Mars) that it doesn't occur easily for you (square). But Venus also says a lot about a person's money, sense of aesthetics, the arts, and so on, so we could have all those conversations.

The main thing is not to see human beings as static collections of attributes, but as being in a dynamic process. If we look at planets in aspects, I suggest:

Pluto: profoundly, sometimes ruthlessly, transforms what it touches
Neptune: dissolves what it touches, or gives things a visionary/illusory bent
Uranus: disrupts or liberates what it touches
Saturn: frustrates/limits or gives structure and material reality
Jupiter: expands what it touches
Mars: gives a quality of aggression, assertiveness

Thanks waybread. Its been an interesting week for me, as far as personal growth. I just wish my academic work could say the same.

I do want to try to finish out my chart sometime next week somehow, and I think I started on the karma a bit, because as I was reading to it, I felt as though I had something screaming at me from the inside. Not pleasant at all.
I posted that thread in the karma board, but I don't think anyone has responded (or will respond) to it.

astrop,

This is going to be information overload on me...I'll have to work on this more, but hints with Jupiter and Sagittarius would be appreciated.

Wow! I didn't expect you to put in EVERY possible "extended keyword", but simply to see which ones "fit" you best and use those "extended keywords"! But, seeing it all written out, I think your effort will pay off. As Waybread suggests, once you get to the point where you get the idea of the "astro-sentence", then you kind of "feel your way around" to see what "fits" in the chart. Also as Waybread said astrological interpretation is "a dynamic process" where you continually go back to the interpretation and discover a little more each time.

With that said, here again are the "keywords" and "extended keywords" for Sagittarius/Jupiter (which you have already written out): "expansion, also travel, wisdom, philosophy, law, judge, religion, publishing, humor". I think the reason you keep coming back to this "keyword is because you have Pisces (spirituality) modifying Jupiter (expansion, also religion) as the "handle" of your bucket chart, indicating that you "pick up" everything in your life with your spiritually religious understanding of them. More about the "bucket chart" here:
http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/funnel.html

Jupiter used to rule Pisces anciently and so when Pisces modifies Jupiter all the strong "spirituality" of Pisces comes through VERY strongly. So exploring more about the "extended keywords" for both Pisces and Jupiter can help you understand more. As can keeping in mind Waybread's very useful point: Pisces "dissolves what it touches, or gives things a visionary/illusory bent" and Jupiter "expands what it touches".*

Astrological charts have been called a "mandala": a mystical picture that we see more and more in the more we focus in on it. And so it is with your chart: don't rush the process, just think about what the "extended keywords" mean and taking a look and comparing it to your life. Think about the symbolism of the sign/planet/house combination and what these indicates. Then ask yourself how you could BEST use these energies in your life (even if you aren't using them right now or don't identify with them). This process will open you up to possibilities.

And, if you have ever learned or are willing to learn meditation, meditating may put you in the open, relaxed, receptive place you need to be to see the astrological mandala unfold before your curious gaze.

Gazing mystically,

Tim

* I realize I have stepped outside the bounds of my astrological website into more advanced astrology, but I think now that since you understand the "basics" and still want to know more, you need to know about some of the other things your chart indicates.

Heh, interesting thing about meditation. I first learned of it when I was in my early teens during the adult classes of Taekwondo. I tried it last Sunday night and it certainly helped me calm down. I did it again earlier this afternoon and I calmed myself right to sleep for an hour!

I think the hardest part of mediation is simply quelling the external noise around you, from loud neighbors to computers and refrigerators humming, and then controlling the breathing so that it is near standstill. However, right now, my meditative ability lies as far as being able to calm down, but I'm not yet able to (or at least, have not figured out how to train the mind) to be able to think more introspectively. That usually occurs when I'm walking around campus, debating myself or often to pass the time, talking with various famous historical figures (Thomas Jefferson, Issac Newton, Plato). Typically, I'm just trying to convey my world to them, trying to explain technology, human history, etc etc to them in ways they would be able to understand it. I know its odd, but it helps keep my mind occupied.

Anyway, I included all of them so that I could try to see if I could pick out any patterns. Unfortunately, it seems to be too much information, which might mean I'll have to think on them.

I know that in my life, emotions play a large role. I"ve often called it my strongest weakpoint, as they can overpower me very quickly and easily. I also consider myself an intellectual, as evident of being a physics major in college, with interests in philosophy and at times, politics for debate. While I do not play or read music, I do enjoy classical music, as it seems to open me up to different levels. I'm also willing to lend a hand and help people, completely regardless of race, creed, orientation, or socio-economic class, often with witty and at times, a playful mocking (or sick-twisted funny sort of way) of humor.

Then there lies the mental instabilities with a long and lasting history of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and seemingly avoiding the world to protect them from myself, in my mind at least. I try so hard to be cautious with plans, yet it seems the ones that I put the most effort into planning, are often the first ones to come undone. "Best laid plans" seems to be a matra for me. As mentioned earlier, there is a lot of idealized love, to the point of being "in love with being in love." There is also a lot of inner jealousy and bitterness towards those who are able to enjoy themselves, despite on the surface me trying to wish them the best and guide them with advice as I can, despite my inability to follow my own advice.

I know these things at least, but I don't yet know how to match them up in the charts, or to see the hidden things that I need to discover, but haven't yet.

Edits of analysis:

Adding to the charts, I noticed a Mercury semi-square Uranus in my chart, which from another thread I was reading on here, explains a bit of disruption to mental ability, aka, some mental instability. Add that to the Pluto-Moon conjunct in Scorpio squared with Leo Mercury, let's just say there is a constant war between the logical mind and the irrational emotions. I also read on the threads that a Mercury - Pluto aspect indicates withholding information, so I'm guessing a Mercury square Pluto conjunct Moon indicates a difficulty NOT withholding information about emotions (ie, wearing emotions on my sleeve, which is definitely true)

I also noticed the Venus in 2nd House (money) sextile with Saturn (hard work, discipline) in the 3rd house (thinking), indicating that hard work and discipline in thinking will hopefully result in love or money. It could also suggest that with some effort, I can be very responsible.

I also read that the sign and planet that makes closest approach to the MidHeaven was career. I've got a retrograde Pisces Jupiter in the 7th house, that is sadly squared with a retrograde Sag. Uranus in the 4th house. Grr, I'm setting myself up for a life of academics. Could someone translate the retrograde Pisces Jupiter? I know Pisces and Jupiter together indicate a strong spiritual sense, but how does the retrograde modify those?

I also still need to learn the true roles of ascendant, midheaven, MC, and IC (since I have a Sag. Saturn there, meaning its opposite the MC)

Astro...you seem quite intelligent and probably have already been over all this in your mind.

But, I guess I will mention it. Depression should be treated. I hope you are also seeking professional help.

I am sure you have probably taken some psychology classes and realize that anxiety often comes from a fear of "loss of control," hence micro-management, and over-planning. And of course it runs in a vicious self-perpetuating cycle.

Worry, and planning future events that very often do not turn out in any way as planned, begets even more furious planning.

And depression results from unmoderated anxiety.

Inner-jealousy will eat at you, and is also a product of insecurity, anxiety, and an unrealistic desire to control.

Also, ponder of the dialectics between self-destructive traits and the desire for idealized love.

As you now know, you have Pluto (transformation, also control) conjunct (energy is combined with) Moon (home, also emotions) square (energy needs to be combined with) Mercury (thinking/daily work, also analysis) focused on the 11th house (friends). This indicates you try to emotionally control the thinking of your friends (those in your "social circle"). When this doesn't work (they don't agree perhaps), you can become frustrated and then avoid them. However, since your Mercury is in the 11th house, when you feel the need to think and analyze again, you have to go back out and face those same "friends" out there. The challenge with Pluto is to learn to SHARE control with those around you.

You also have Neptune (spirituality, also idealization) square Venus (relationships), indicating you idealize your relationships and are on a "quest" for the "perfect relationship". The challenge is to realize that NO relationship is "ideal", that ALL relationships take work from BOTH people in the relationship to make them work.

As to "jealousy", that is a "shadow side" of Mars (being, also anger) square Venus, getting angry at those other relating around you. Review some of the earlier suggestions about how to work with this energy.

Retrograde planets indicate the energy is "held back". So when the person is a child they work VERY hard on using this "held back" energy. As result of this "hard word" when young, the retrograde planets tend to be VERY strong when the person is older. As this suggests, someone with a retrograde Pisces (spirituality) modifying Jupiter (expansion, also religion) has a VERY strong sense of their spiritual place in terms of their own religion.

Finally, you mentioned an interest in "karma" and "goals" in another thread. The North node (future goals) in our charts indicates where we are working to "get to". You have Aries (being) modifying your North node (outer world money/values) focused in the 8th house. Here is what Kevin Burk wrote in The Complete Node Book about Aries modifying North node focused in the 8th house:
Your gifts of charm, diplomacy, and balance are important skills and resources to you...Your ability to form partnerships, to negotiate, to reason, and to communicate are the foundation of your ability to generate material wealth and success...Relationships...can also become too important to you. The trap is that your sense of self-worth may be based on what you believe others think of you...The key to balancing this energy is to explore your own individual needs and desires within the context of your relationships...The lesson here is to learn how to assert your own individuality while maintaining your relationships to others.

Just wanted to say this list is great, thank you Waybread. A great way to get the main aspected planet meanings down with room to expand.

Hey, thanks! And then you can apply these according to the nature of the aspect (opposition, trine, whatever) and the nature of the other planet/s making that aspect.

Again, generally a "hard" aspect will mean the person has difficulty with the energies such that one or more negative behaviours occurs. This becomes less true as the person ages and s/he learns to deal maturely with difficult situations, however. Generally an "easy" aspect will mean the energies go well for the person, such that s/he expresses the positive side of both planets.

Just for example, Neptune conjunct or trine Venus is often related to artistic ability: Venus deals with the arts and aesthetics, and Neptune inhabits an imaginative world. Neptune square Mars, on the other hand, often indicates someone with self-esteem or timidity problems: Mars is one's courage and assertiveness, but with the square, Neptune tends to dissolve them.

True true and true on all counts.

Self-esteem and self-confidence has ALWAYS been lacking for me. Definitely true on seeing my own self-worth as how much people want me around or seem to need me around. Never could figure out a way to absolve that, so I just took it as nature and sought out to remain an outsider, since I didn't feel as though I was really wanted by anyone. I could be in a room full of people and still feel completely alone, just more vulnerable.

For the friendships, looking externally at the situation, it must seem rather frustrating for my friends (well, they tend to come and go alot, usually at most five or six years) to see my emotional backlash, then me seeming to disappear from view (which I do), then come back as this analytical person asking to debate them on some topic.

Relationships on any level, be it friendships, failed romance (normally fails long before I get up the courage to talk to them, and usually goes downhill from there), are very difficult for me. I suppose I can be overpowering at times, often not realizing it until the damage is done. I guess the first task would be more observant of my surroundings? Nevermind, scratch that. I've known that was the answer, I just didn't know HOW to go about it, or how to discipline my mind in that regard. Its often running "in overdrive" if you will. This ties into the part of my self-confidence being a measure of my own perceived self-worth, which is typically measured by two means: how much I can help people, and how inviting other people are of having me in their lives.

Ajar, you've pretty much nailed it on the head for the depression and anxiety. And yes, I very intimately know just how far that jealousy, self-hatred, depression and anxiety can lead in one's self-destruction. Would a proper course of action be learning to not be so controlling and just things happen, despite them not living up to my expectations? I would think that over a period of time, I would eventually either stop using my talents of attention to detail and such over time and become lethargic and apathetic, which currently seem very anti-me.

I've got several retrograde planets. At first when I saw it on Uranus, I feared that as I know Uranus dictates my interest in science, technology, and my rebellious nature (ie, I'll try it your way, but when it fails, I'll come up with a new way for me that works, and does it better and faster than your way, then teach you my way of doing it)

Now that I have that bit about retrogrades, and in my own studies I have figured out that the Mid-Heaven is supposed to be careers, the Ascendant is my true self and how I project myself to others, and the IC is my innermost fears and lessons to be learned? I've got Saturn right on my IC, straddling the 3rd and 4th houses (home, self-expression). Saturn is not just control and discipline, he's also Karma and lesson to be taught. Should I be a bit worried here, or how should I go about approaching this one?

Also, what should I watch out for that could really cause problems with the Scorpio Moon conjunct Pluto and Venus square Mars when looking at transit or progressed charts? And how do I change the ones on astro.com to reflect actual location now, rather than basing everything on where I was born?

I would think that over a period of time, I would eventually either stop using my talents of attention to detail and such over time and become lethargic and apathetic, which currently seem very anti-me.

On the other hand, by training yourself to use your talents more selectively you would undoubtedly enhance them in the areas where they are beneficial, and not waste them on destructive endeavors.

Clearly, when you analyze your quoted response you will see that it it is only an excuse to not change the behavior in question. Again, most likely a fear of losing control over something that you falsely believe you are in control of.

The IC is your "inner world" but does not have to do with "fears". "Fears" are frequently connected to Saturn, so with Saturn on your IC, you have "inner fears". The best thing to do with fears is to face them. Ask yourself "What is the worst that could happen if I do this thing I fear?" And if you would be still alive if the worst happened and it doesn't involve killing anyone ;) , then go ahead and do it! Facing your fears makes them go away...or at least it changes the "fear" into a "challenge to fix".

As has been mentioned, you don't need a transit to "cause problems" with Scorpio Moon conjunct Pluto and Venus square Mars: these aspects can cause problems all by themselves. Work to understand the energy better and then work to find ways to USE that energy in your life.

I agree w/ Tim, and `a propos of my mini-lectures, above:

A good way to deal with a square is to think of a constructive or happy combo of that energy, and then decide "I am challenged to..." For example, with Mars square Neptune in my above example, "I am challenged to develop my courage," and then maybe take up a water sport like sailing or swimming ('cause Mars rules athletics and Neptune, bodies of water) to develop it. Stumped for ideas? Find an astrology aspect "cookbook", look up the trines and sextiles, and then decide that you are challenged to develop those planets' energies in the more positive ways described.

This basically sets you up in "choice-centered astrology" vs. the Chicken Little or Doom 'n' Gloom schools of astrology.

In choice-centred astrology, the key is to own both planets in an opposition. Again, what if they were trined? Then just seek **balance** in order to harmonize both planets.

Also, the outer planets go retrograde an awful lot of the time. No Bigs. All of my outer planets are retrograde. My retrograde Uranus didn't stop me from getting a M.S. degree.

Natal Mercury retrograde is fairly common (I have it) and it generally tends to go direct by progression during the person's life. Saturn retrograde generally means its opposite the sun, and then that is the life issue for someone to address. Venus retrograde gives the person a kind of inner mystique. Mars retrograde can make the person less assertive. With Jupiter retrograde, people generally appear fairly serious.

astrop86

Ah, okay. I guess for a while I was under the belief that the natal chart was mostly a roadmap of life, and I was hoping it would provide some direction here and there. I honestly wasn't aware of the spirituality part of my chart, though with a Leo Sun in the 12th semi-sextile to a retro Pisces Jupiter in the 7th, it must play a large role, hopefully giving me a positive outlet to the Venus square Mars and Pluto-Moon conjunct in Scorpio in the 3rd.

I actually looked at my progressed chart for tomorow, using the information I've learned so far. The first thing I noticed was I have a lot of conjuncts or near conjuncts, namely with Pluto, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, nearly finished with Mars, and Jupiter. I do know to disregard Pluto, as that has an approximately 248 year orbit, so I'm not worried about that moving much in only 22 years. Same applies for Neptune, as it has a period a little more than half that of Pluto, and Uranus, which has a period of about 80 years or so, give or take.

I am a bit surprised that Jupiter is mostly conjunct with Jupiter, as is Chiron with Chiron in the 10th House. Finally, I noticed a triple conjunct of progressed Sun, Mercury, and Moon in the 1st house, which is typically the self. It might explain a bit of how and why I've been reflecting so much on myself the past week or two.

Saturn is nearly conjunct with natal Saturn, even though I'm only 22. Last I checked, Saturn has a period of 29 years, with a sidereal of about 10 hours. Does it really take another seven years just to make it what looks to be about 4 degrees? Something doesn't seem right about this chart. Granted, the past six years have ... been interesting, to say the least.

Finally, I noticed that it seems the AC and MC have shifted by about 25 degrees or so. Does this shift the houses with it, and what is signified by this?

The first chart is supposed to be Natal + Progressed, the second is Progressed only. There seems to be a large difference in the charts. Anyone know why?

In general, it is best not to go into progressions (or transits, etc.) until you have a good understanding of your birth chart. But since you brought it up... :D

If you are looking for a chart to use on Astrodienst, I suggest the "transits and progressions combined" chart. This is because, as you suggested, progressions move VERY slowly, so the only progressions that are that useful are progressions of Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Transits of these planets move VERY quickly so only the "outer" planets are that useful for transits: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The combined progressions/transits Astrodienst chart splits up the planets just this way: progressions only use Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars; and transits only use Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. This chart is based on your birth chart and shows the progressions and transits around your birth chart.

The two charts look different because they are different charts. The first chart is your birth chart with the progressed chart around it. The second chart is a progressed chart created for right now. So the first chart will have the Ascendant of your birth chart, while the second chart will have the Ascendant for right now.

Making progress,

Tim

Somehow I figured there was some pattern to how it went for inferior / superior planets. Alright, here should be the proper chart that you mentioned.

In terms of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury being in the first house, I would venture that means I am thinking (Mercury) and feeling (Moon) about myself (first house), also known as introspection. Yet Sun is a fire sign, Moon is a water sign. Is the Sun "burning" the moon, causing a supression of emotional self-thoughts, allowing me to think a bit clearer in terms of introspection? Saturn being in this house with them probably means there is a lot of hard-work and/or discipline in regards to this as well.

Venus is still in the 2nd house, both natally and in the progression, but are not conjunct or anything, which probably just means that it is acting as it normally does, namely helping with wealth and / or posessions.

No one is activating the Scorpio Pluto-Moon disaster, for which I am very grateful. I am sure in the coming five or six years, Saturn will have something to say about that one (Oh joy...)

Pluto is nearly conjuct Neptune in the 4th/5th house cusp, indicating a transformation of dreams or illusions, or perhaps an intensification of these. I have been having strange dreams lately in a frequency I haven't had before, but they are also very slow moving planets, so they should be doing too much together. Maybe its a shattering of dreams and coming grips with reality, as Pluto so often likes to do?

An Aquarian Jupiter is directly transiting the fifth house, namely the self-expression. Personal growth in thinking of my self-expression?

Aquarian Neptune in the sixth house. Not sure on this one, as Neptune is obviously a water planet, as Aquarius is a water sign, but its in the sixth house, of daily work. If I recall, a water sign means it "dissolves," which means I'm not getting my work done as I should be (sad, but true).

Uranus is nearly conjunct with natal Pisces Jupiter in the 7th house of relationships, meaning possible creativity or rebellious behavior in spiritual self-growth?

I wish these progressed / transit charts would tell us if something is squaring or trining our natal planets. It would certainly help make connections a bit easier.

Great job at working on your chart! You are really getting it! I think for transiting (moving planets in the sky) Pluto (transformation) conjunct (energy is combined with) birth Neptune (spirituality, also confusion) your 2nd choice is the most common result: "coming grips with reality". The only change I suggest is to NOT look at Uranus as "creative". Uranus is "innovative" or even "rebellious" but NOT "creative". "Creative" energy is Sun energy.

You CAN get the listing of progressed/transit aspects to your birth chart on astro.com. Go to your progressed/transits chart, go to the upper left corner and click on the "View the additional tables (PDF)" link. This will open up a PDF with aspect grids for the chart. With the progressed charts, since they move VERY slowly, only look at aspects which have a very small number of degrees (e.g., "2o32" which is "2 degrees 32 minutes of a degree") listed for their orb (how close an aspect can be and still be in aspect).

Happy Astrologizing!

Thanks. No, really, I appreciate it.

I think I've got my natal chart mostly figured out, though I'm sure there is still a lot more to read into it and try to interpret.

If I ever catch up on my hw and such, I'd like to try to learn about Karmic astro and the Harmonics of the natal chart and trying to understand how those help me. As they say, knowledge is power.
