I was just browsing through several old threads on the Natal & Predictive Astrology Board (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2) in search of natal charts for my latest project (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1447), when I rediscovered an essay I had written to aid beginning student of astrology.

I will post this guide here, although it can also be found on a thread called need some help (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=939&start=9):

Diane,

I'd like to share the standard method I use to get a basic astrological analysis outside these boards; hopefully you and others will find this information helpful.

I was actually studying numerology for quite some time before I delved into astrology, so naturally I am quite comfortable with the first site I ever used for both purposes.Astrology-Numerology.com (http://www.astrology-numerology.com/) has a very nice template (http://www.astrology-numerology.com/reading.html) you can use to create your own personal astrology reading. This is also where I first found out about Astrodienst (http://www.astro.com/); before you start any endeavor it is necessary to have the proper information and tools, or so my Virgo South Node insists

Once you have your natal chart and know the positions/aspects/etc. of your planets (including your Ascendent, Sun, and Moon signs), you can proceed to use the template and click on the links it provides to move around the site, copying and pasting your particular readings into a word processor.

Astrodienst also provides free horoscopes including a sample of their personal portraits, which you should be able to access from the main site once you have created your natal chart. The horoscopes can be located through links on the main page; check out as many as you can, paying particular attention to the charts on the bottom of the AstroText Portrait (http://www.astro.com/cgi/atxgen.cgi?lang=e&btyp=apx) and AstroText Youth (http://www.astro.com/cgi/atxgen.cgi?lang=e&btyp=akx) pages. For some strange reason, I found the AstroText Youth report gave me more detailed information about my aspects...I have no idea why, but check out both versions and save them on your computer in a special folder for easy access.

I have found that the main site of this forum, Astrology Weekly (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/), has the most thorough and easy-to-use descriptions of all possible astrological aspects (http://www.astrologyweekly.com/astrological-aspects/) that may appear in your natal chart. It is a good idea to save this page on your Favorite Places, because you will definately be referring to it often as you form you own report. In fact, I suggest that you create your own Astrology folder in both your Favorite Places and on your Desktop because if you're anything like me, you'll have TONS of information and won't know where to put any of it

I have found that The Message of the Stars (http://www.rosicrucian.com/mos/moseng11.htm#toc) gives a great description of the Rising Signs (http://www.rosicrucian.com/mos/moseng02.htm#The_Rising_Sign)...you may want to check out their other articles and descriptions as well, I highly recommend them.

This should be enough to start you out with...good luck on your journey to self-discovery!

I hope that this may help other beginning astrologers as well

A50, this thread was in the 'Help with forums..' section, as it was posted way back in 2006 when neither the Greenhorns' Lounge nor the Education Board existed. I have now moved it to the Greenhorns' Lounge.

Message of the Stars is absolutely brilliant in all ways. I also am into numerology and as astrology is based on mathematical calculations it all adds to the picture..... I also recommend the Rosicrucian Society's free astrology lessons and advanced. They espouse their own religious and moral ideas but that is okay....you take what you want from it all..

I'm really glad I dropped in here first. I'm looking at the astrology/numerology site now, and I'm already finding it very helpful. Thanks!

When birth time is unknown, is it best to use "6am" or "noon" as the default time. I notice both are used on different sites. I tried both and found it gave different results for the ASC and house placement.
Thanks! (I did try searching this site before posting the question.)

I just signed on today but have been looking at the Astrodienst site and have to say that it seems pretty good though couldn't find much in the free stuff about node and asteroid aspects. But agree with AM that worth a look. Hope this is helpful.

The Message of the Stars is absolutely brilliant and I recommend all the works to anyone..... It is a little religiose and old fashioned in some ways but....marvellous..

Asteroids are not valid that is why.. Some people have made up a legend about many of these essentially space junk bodies....There are literally thousands of them.....NOde aspects have a tight orb and I only use conjunctions of about 3 degrees maximum...Others may use squares and trines etc. but again they have to be very tight....

Yes many very good sites on the net. But again there are many that are not.... Have to be discriminating..

I also use Nodes only by conjunction with planets (or Parts or degree points) and use an ever tighter orb of aspect (2 degrees) OR by Parallel of Declination (with an orb of 1.5 degrees)

Note that Claire19 offers a free study course on Modern astrology basics, which beginners should consider.

doesn't really matter, as you cannot rely on planets in houses, you will only ever get *half a story* If you use our search feature there are lots of threads discussing rectification of charts and we have a memer Kannon who specialises in this field....:kissing:

Also have a look in our Recommendations forum, Education forum and ALL the *stickys* at the top of every forum giving information regading that forums specific interests....

Lastly, let's not forget we have a great *search feature* bit like google, using keywords.....

It is not there in forum or a sticky as it is not an easy task to just understand it through books. You just have to be with a person who can correctly guide you for the same. For further knowledge, you just need to carry on with an astrologer.:joyful:

I second this! A good book AND a teacher is the winning combination! ;)
