I am wondering if a progressed sun that begins to square one's natal Uranus lasts 10 years or is there a peak, and not much significance the other years? Or does it last just one year?

Sharyn,

You asked:

Thank you for including some possible answers along with your question. Aspects become stronger as the two planets are moving closer and closer together into the aspect (called "applying" in astrology). Aspects are at their strongest when they are exactly in aspect with each other (called "exact" in astrology): this is the "peak" of the energy. After that point the planets will be moving away from each other and away from aspecting each other (called "separating" in astrology).

Basically,

Some give the luminaries 1.5 degrees and maybe also the ruler of the ascendant.

like Solar Arcs, 1' applying/approaching, 1' exact, 1' departing. Most influence for one year exact and sometimes 1' off as well....

But you may well have something nice going on like Jupiter crossing Asc. Dont just take this and get things out of proportion. Look at transits and Solar arcs, Solar returns as well....
