...Howdy ya' all.
I believe that a great many of you may be interested to know that the World reknowned Sabian Symbol Astrologer, Lynda Hill, has done a web radio brodcast that took place last August 28, 2008.
The web radio program, produced and hosted by the American Astrologer, Dena DeCastro, is a great introduction tho the history of the Sabian Symbols as we presently know them and to the life and work of Lynda Hill herself.
Lynda has her own wesite that includes a mavelous Sabian Oracle that can be utilized for free. Lynda also has a monthly newletter, that I feel, is a must for all interested in these Symbols.
I thoroughly recommend it.
[the following is from Lynda]
Hi All and Greetings from DownUnder!
I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dena DeCastro, an astrologer from Portland, Oregon last week. She's put up the interview on:
http://www.denadecastro.com/ (http://www.denadecastro.com/) Site/Podcast/Podcast.html
In this interview, I speak about many aspects of the Sabian Symbols; Elsie Wheeler and her story and her amazing abilities, the Sabian Symbols origins, their uses both in divination and astrology, and a bit of my story with them. If you need iTunes or Quicktime, you can download it from Dena's site. You can also - Open iTunes - type “Dena DeCastro” in the search bar - click on the blue bunny - subscribe to the podcast, or download the episode.
Please allow time for the file of the interview to download - it's quite a long interview.
With wishes that you enjoy!
Greetings and Love from DownUnder
Lynda Hill

I hear a lot of talk about the sabian symbols, which i know very little about. Do you find much meaning in these symbols? Do you thing the meanings of each degree accurately represent your chart? I'm just curious to see what, if anything, is really important(or not),about these symbols.

4leafclovah, yes, I do believe in the message of these symbols. It is very accurate in many cases but because it is all symbolically, you must get a feeling for what it means in your own life. If I have a question, I just close my eyes, think of the question and open my book randomly and then read about the symbol (oracle) I find. It really pinpoints the situation.
Some also rectify their horoscope with the help of the Sabian degrees. Have a look at our Sabian Symbol Forum (Forum Jump, then scroll down till you find it). A lot is written there.

I would not look at each degree, but only at the degrees of important planets, Ascendant, MC and IC. Then the transits of planets over a certain degree, read about that degree and see if that transits has to do with those issues written about that degree. Try it.

...And Lynda Hill has a pretty neat on-line Sabian Oracle over at her web-site...just ask...point...and click.
I believe it's important to remember that the Sabians, when used as an oracle, should be asked a question in the same manner as one would approach the I Ching in question.
That is, you don't ask questions in YES-OR-NO form...but questions should be asked as: "If I procede with THIS course of action what will be the result?"...and then a follow up question could be asked: "If I don't procede with THIS course of action what will result?"
Pesonally, I like using a deck of regular playing cards. Spiritually cleanse, bless and protect a new deck.
Shuffle them and randomly draw a 'picture card' and a 'numberd card'.
Kings represent the present Cardinal Signs. i.e. Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn...with Hearts representing Spring...Diamonds Summer...Spades Fall and Clubs the Winter. Queens represent the Fixed signs and Jacks the Mutable.
For another couple of examples: The Queen of Diamonds is Leo...the Jack of Clubs is Pisces.
The numeric cards are A thru 10 Hearts represent numbers #1 thru 10...A thru 10 Daimonds represent #11 thru 20...A thru 10 Spades represents #21 thru 30...you don't use the numbered Clubs.
A couple examples of this method would be; Jack Hearts & 10 Diamonds would represent Aries 20*....Queen Clubs & 9 Spades would represent Aquarius 29*.
And one more example is: King Diamonds & 8 Hearts would represent Cancer 8*.
I've gotten some amazing results with this and it never lets me down...I understand this particular method utilizing cards was Templar in use and or origin.
...and I, of course, prefer using Rudhyars' text and definitions with the Symbols...not at all unlike the I Ching where-as you find someone particular translation and stick with it.
I tried using the I Ching for years and generally was unsatisfied with that method of divination....way too much lost in the translations.
Once I started using the Sabians in the method described above I have since never used the I Ching. [well, maybe just once or twice...i'd still like to figure it out]
...ps 4leaf, the Symbols are apparently [obviously] as old as time itself. They were allegedly known to many an ancient civilization of which, I believe, I read that Egypt was the last known ancient civilization to have a set of these symbols.
But all knowledge was lost except for the stories of them.
A couple few efforts were made by various seers/Clairvoyants over the centuries but it was the re-knowned 20th Century American Astrologer, Marc Edmond Jones with the assistance of a clairvoyant of the most pure in spirit and background he could find...Elsie Wheeler whom both finally achieved this.
Lynda Hill did quite the research on this story and it comprises a good deal of the hour long talk she gives on the above mentioned program.

...these symbols were re-discovered in 1926 ...and then along came Dane Rudhyar whom was well studied in both Philosophy, Jungian Psychology and Astrology...and Dane spent a good deal of the next 35 or 40 years of his life studying the symbols as percieved by Miss Wheeler before releasing his book of interpretation in 1973 when he was 77 years of age.
More than just a book on the Symbols and their interpretation...Dane expounds on many archane and occult subjects and how they pertain to the Symbology of the Zodiac. He also demostates utilizing them in chart axis analogy, cusp analogy, etc. etc. and gives quite the dissertation on an application of yogic understanding to the Zodiac that even my old friend Suryakant, whom has been a student of yoga, Vedic and Sanskrit knowledge longer than I have, is both at a loss to explain from what school Rudhyar got this understanding and is amazed at the profound intelligence of it...as I am.
Also be most sure to read the chapter titled "The Cross and the Star" ...it's an explanitive on applying Symbolic interpretation to the Chart Axis, as I mentioned above.
Lynda Hill has inherited the mantle of being recognized as the foremost authority.
...DANE!!!

Linda's book comes with blue and red cards representing the numbers and the signs. I find that very useful for a lazy Taurus:) Just take one of each after mixing the cards. You can even make them yourself.

Wow, thats very interesting Starlink, thanks. I'll be reading more about these. There 's already a lot going on symbolically with stars, asteroids, degrees...it can get overwhelming at times when you consider all of this.
