View Full Version : Astrology and space travel?

With space travel becoming more and more advanced and possible, I was curious...
If say a Cancer walked on the moon, how would being on "their planet" affect them?
Or say in the future, when (and if) we colonize other planets, how will it affect someone's natal chart if they are born on another planet?

Well, you could trying asking - there has been only one so far - and he holds the record for spending more time walking on the moon than anyone else.

Dr Harrison Schmitt, the last man to walk there to date, was a Cancerian, born July 3, 1935, in Santa Rita, New Mexico (time unknown by this correspondent). Famously, he fell over while walking on the moon (kissing the ground of his native planet?) and is featured singing "I was walking on the moon one day" while doing so in the documentary film In the Shadow of the Moon.

As part of Apollo 17, he is the 12th man to have walked on the moon and holds the record for longest extravehicular activity (over 22 hours), collecting more lunar material than any previous astronaut. After leaving NASA he was elected to the US Senate as a Republican for New Mexico. He advocates a return to the moon as he believes it to be a source of helium-3, used as a fuel in nuclear fusion reactors. I think you could say that he felt quite at home on the moon and is very happy for others to follow in his footsteps.

Your question regarding astrology on other planets is a good one. It's quite possible that a human will be born on the moon sometime this century, giving rise to the first lunacentric chart in which the Earth will undoubtedly be the most prominent planet. Being our home planet, will Earth be given rulership of the 4th, the house of the home? This topic has been raised in other threads on this forum and is a useful subject for conjecture about the application of astrology outside the confines of Earth.

Best wishes.

Have to say, if that is his only reason for wanting humans to return to the Moon, that is sad, alas, easy to believe. I have sometimes thought that the reaon for the interest in Mars is in case there might be a nice new source to mine for fossil fuels.

I should imagine that for a native born on the Moon, Earth would assume massive importance in any luna-centric chart.

now that is interesting idea if i ever heard one. could be the premise of a great book. well for some reason when i started learning about astrology i thought it had something to do with gravitational pull (like the tides by the moon) so therefore when leaving earths atmosphere the gravitational force would be completely different and mostly irrelevant. but how are we as mere earthlings to know for sure....

Anyone know how professional astrologers view this topic? My biggest question would be, since we don't include Earth in our charts (unless you count the Ascendant), if you were born on the moon, would the moon no longer be in your chart? If so, then would that mean Earth replaces it? Earth would have to be a ruler too, but of what sign/house? It does make sense for it to rule Cancer and the 4th, as it "gave birth" to us in a sense (motherly way), and it is a nurturer if you choose to believe in that perspective. However, what about if someone was born on a base on Mars...what would happen to Mars in the chart? I also wonder, would a Lunarian automatically have the attributes of a Cancer/Moon person? I would be very interested in hearing the opinions of leading astrologers as this is a very relevant topic, and should be addressed sooner than later, since it could very well be in our near future

It's certainly possible that a human could be born on the Moon this century and the Earth would figure very prominently in their chart. It would seem to make sense that our home planet would represent many of those aspects which we attribute to the 4th house but whether it would naturally rule Cancer is open to discussion.

The astrological attributes of Earth would certainly figure in any analysis of the chart of someone born on Mars, although what would replace the fiery, warrior nature of that planet in their chart is anybody's guess! Uranus, which would be visible from Mars with the naked eye, might be an unexpected candidate.

The Earth's moon, of course, would lose its significance in a Mars birth chart, but there would have to be a serious study of the effects of Mars' moons Phobos and Deimos. Since these moons' names in Greek mean Fear and Dread respectively, their attributes might be less cosy and benign than those we associate with our own moon. A race of Marsmen and women, descendants of Earthlings, might be very worried indeed about mass immigration if Earth were to suffer an ecological disaster. It might even lead to a war of the worlds ...

Yes! - Imagine.

The Martian astrologer of the future could be discussing the effects of afflictions to your Phobos and how it is the eternal rival of Deimos.....

Imagine being on a space station of either Jupiter or Saturn from that point of view. 'You owe your volatile temper to Io culminating in your radix,' or 'Your Titanic tendencies have sunk beneath a morass of Saturnian debris.'

astrology we know applies only to people born on earth
for people born on moon or other planets, we need new rules, new calculations as distances from moon to other planets will change and also latitude and longitude of place on moon etc

i feel its already developed science among aliens, as they were born on some other planet

mercury is responsible for space/air travel for ppl born on earth

Another interesting question is if Earth (and other planets) would have the same meaning for someone born on Moon and someone born on Mars?

NO. seperate sciencee will have to be develpoed for them
