You might benefit from freeware called ProgTran you can find on the internet. I find it tediuous, but it's free, so can't really complain.
The most important thing it will do is give you your true Solar Arc, which can vary based on where you live. Your Sun may be fast or slow (mine is very slow).
For Solar Arcs you look at conjunctions (0°), semi-squares (45°), squares (90°), sesquisquares (135°) and oppositions (180°). From those aspects you get what are basically mid-point pictures, and you use the house, sign and aspect to narrow down the picture a bit.
Generally, you don't use Solar Arcs with transits or progressions, you use them with natal planets. I suppose you could use them with progressed planets, but I never saw anything.
There's nothing negative about the Solar Arc Ascendant moving through Sagittarius, it's just indicative of a general mood, which overall is very positive.
