Dear all,
I just received my Astrological Magazine "Astrologie Heute", a German magazine, which I receive 6x a year.
They had an article which really caught my eye and awakened my (already great) interest in the Sabian Symbols.

It analyzed the upcoming opposition between Saturn and Uranus with the help of the Sabian Symbols.

As we know Saturn and Uranus by themselves already show opposite energies:

Saturn - Uranus

Old -New
Conservative -Progressive
Laws- Anarchy
Guarding the old_ Changing the old
Setting borders- Breaking borders
Traditional -Unconventional
Continuity -Constant renewal
Constrictions- Freedom

There will be 5 returning opposition between these two planets over the next 2 years:

1. on the 4th of November 2008, 18°.58 Virgo/Pisces
2. on the 5th of February 2009, 20°.39
3. on the 15th of September '09 24°43
4. on the 26th of April 2010 28°46
5. on the 26th of July 2010 0°25 Libra/Aries

Now for each of these oppositions we can look up the Sabian Symbols and by doing that, getting the message of the opposition.

The Virgo-Pisces axis can be called the "crisis axis", because with these two zodiac signs, we are getting to the end of both halves of the whole Zodiac and so it represents a new beginning after that which means that we have to round off or bring to an end, the processes which accumalted up to this point. This can therefore only be called a crisis period and that is exactly what the world is emerged in at the moment.

At the beginning of the new signs, Libra and Aries, the days and nights are of the same length and therefore also the connecting the energies which now have to be balanced out.

Lets have a look at the Sabian Symbol for the 1st opposition: 19° Virgo, Saturns place.
"A SWIMMING RACE" basically showing competition. It also shows capitalism according to one of the keywords. Very suitable for this election day!

For 19° Pisces, Uranus's place: "A MASTER INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLE"
Keywords: To give and receive. Lessons that need to be well learned, taking time to instruct others. Laying down the law with someone. Being or setting a good example.

The key here is for everybody to join forces and steer towards a more spiritual goal.

What everyone should do is not trying to be better then someone else but just doing the best we can by ourselves. This symbol points to the political and economic situation at the moment. The danger is that Saturn, instead of bringing a solution to the global problems, still could try to make the most profit out of it all, whilst Uranus in Pisces could show how the worldsituation could potentially become better and how change could be the key for doing this.

Apart from looking at this most important mundane aspect, it is of course also very useful to look at your natal chart oppositions (and any other aspect of course) and see what you find there. For those who do not have a book on the Sabian Symbols, I will find a link and paste it here.

Hi Star,

I find this, and your use of Sabian Symbols generally, very interesting - but, still do not know how to use them myself.

For example, my Sun falls at 27.40 degrees of Scorpio - so, is that the Sabian Symbol for Scorpio 28?

And, if so, where do I find the keywords to interpret :-

"A king of the fairies approaching his domain"

(in the meantime, please can you tell me what this particular - and somewhat disconcerting - symbol might mean?)

Hi EJ,
(in the meantime, please can you tell me what this particular - and somewhat disconcerting - symbol might mean?)

sure, I have Linda Hills book here ("360 degrees of Wisdom", charting your destiny with the Sabian Oracle), but usually try to interprete a symbol first according to my own feelings. She, after explaining a symbol, also has the note: "What does this SYMBOL say to you?"

Indeed, you round upwards, so 27°40 becomes 28°.

About this symbol Linda writes:
" The king understands ,or has a sense of,where he belongs and his place in the overall scheme of things.
He is approaching or reclaiming what somehow "belongs" to him. He may have been away from his true pace for a long time, he may have had some reason to leave temporarily or he may never have known (or found) where his true place was. Whatever, he is now coming closer and closer to his "Domain", his realm.

Keywords are: Imaginary worlds. Finding a place. Feeling omfortable, taking command of life. Leadership and its responsibilities. Feeling like a dominant leader and that one has a doting populace. Being welcomed. Returning home and finding one's true vocation or purpose.

What I do is looking at the Sun and see in which house (life circumstances) his energy plays out. Looking at the above, your Sun wants to reclaim something in that particular area of your life, something that you feel you never got and which rightly belongs to you. Your Sun energy, the way you express yourself in that area, that house, shows how you go about it. If Sun is combined with Pluto, you can be ruthless in order to get what you want, if Sun is combined with Venus, you go about it in a more loving way maybe, also depending what sort of aspect it is of course. If Pluto is aspecting your Sun nicely, you might be able to forcefully convince others of your claim.

This Symbol very clearly shows the Ego necessities and expressions. What are these necessities? That is what the Symbol tells you. So I guess, there is something you feel you missed out on in your life, maybe you feel you could have done better but you were treated unfair so you never made it, maybe something else, that is something you know better than I do of course.

Now there are also cautions accompanying these Symbols. The caution here is that one could have superiority feelings which alienate others of fear of approaching the unknown, never finding a real place to settle down. Being bossy and commanding, the fear an dloathing of having ot accept one's true place, loneliness, feeling locked out.

I would take these cautions seriously when your Sun has difficult aspects and the more positive keywords for the more positive one's.

Now if you have an opposition with the Sun to some other planet, then also do the same for the other planet to see what opposes your "getting what you think you should have", if it is a square, it is probably about wrong decisions or being in the wrong place or behaving the wrong way which stands in your way.

Hope this helps you a bit. This is how I do it anyways, no idea how others would interprete this.

Cheers, Starlink

Thanks, Star.

My Sun is in 3rd house of communications, closely conjunct Chiron and qcx Uranus in Gemini/9th..........

Interestingly though, this symbol feels to me as if it is about "getting there after a long journey".

Thanks again, Star. Think I'm gonna get the book.

...Greetings, I am presuming that a good many of you may be unaware of the 'matrical connection' between the degrees/symbols in the Zodiac.
Lynda Hill and I have been in some correspondence for a least a couple of years now and she and I have shared some observations.
As far as I know it was Rudhyar that first proposed these connections [as far as anything that has been written on the subject since Marc Edmond Jones and Elsie Wheeler re-ascertained these symbols].
Rudhyar mentions this most specifically in his book "An Astrological Mandalla" in the chapter titled "The Cross and the Star".
Lynda and I have noted that any Matrix constructed within the Zodiac will lead to symbols supportive of each other within these matrices. Lynda Hill mentions this matrical connection in the internet radio broadcast she did with the American Astrologer, Dena DeCastro, that was first 'aired' on last August 28th .
Try constructing a Grand Cross, a Pentagram, Trine, Magen David, Septiles et. al. within the framework of the Zodiac and look at the resultant symbols.
I mention in my book how Rabbi Joel Dobins' book "Kabbalistic Astrology" and his Kabbalistic translation of the Biblical Book "Habakkuk" in 3:2-4 led me to a 'seeing' of mutual validation of The Rabbis work and that of Rudhyars interpretations and theories surrounding these symbols.
The Rabbi re-translated "Habakkuk" 3: 2-4 to read: "...It shall become known by means of the years. God shall come from [the direction of] Capricorn-Aquarius, And the Holy One from [the direction of] Mount Paran [Sinai] Selah. And the Moon, like the Sun, will be rays at His side. And therein will lie the secret of His power."
When I constructed a Matrix of a Grand Cross utilizing Capricorn 30*/Aquarius 01* as the origin it led to 8 symbols which represent the Who, Where-To, How and Why of humankinds existence...the "seed" of the previous cycle of creation is represented by the degress of Cap. Cancer, Libra and Aries in the [I]thirtieth degrees...and the resultant current creation that arose from those seeds of that previous cycle is represented by the first degrees of the signs Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio and Taurus...
Check it out...I believe that the majority of you will see it as I do.
Now try it with a Pentagram or Magen David [Grand Sextile] or any Matrix from 2 to 12 points ...or more, I believe it works!

...what I'm getting at here is... what Starlink has noted that there is a 'solution' [or at least a resolution of understanding and acquiesence] to any dilemma, of the aspects encountered in Astrology, through the use of Sabian Symbolic interpretation by a construction of matrices that demonstate that the "Laws of the Cosmos" [as symbolically represented by the degrees of the Zodiac]...I pray I've made sense here ...
...Again, I plead all to read the chapter titled the 'Cross and the Star" in Rudhyars book "An Astrological Mandalla" for an introduction into Sabian Symbol chart matrix interpretation.

[note: I apologize as to first posting this with ref. to the 1st degrees of the Cardinal signs and the 30th degrees of the Fixed signs...I have corrected it to read, properly, the other way around...Dave]

Hi Dave, thank you very much for this information. Indeed I have not heard about the Matrical Connection before, but of course I know about Dane Rudhyar. I have his book about the Astrological House System and now interested in buying this book about Astrological Mandala, more for my own curiosity about these things actually. Most interesting all this! We are always looking for solutions, at least I always have been. When I do a chart with a difficult configuration, it is all nice and dandy to actually interprete it and pinpointing the potential problems, but finding the solution is another story.
Thanks again!
