I think we have finally found a perfect topic to add to this board...decans! As we study the intricate relationships between planets and seek to understand their placements through such means as sabian symbols, I have found it to be incredibly easy to overlook the relationship between each planet and where it falls within its sign.

I remember thinking that the third decan of Pisces fit me quite well, but I don't remember how I felt about the first decan of Aries. I will investigate this now :wink:

Oh well, I like my charts and I'm going to post the decan and duad for each of my planets here:

Sun: Leo Decan, Libra Duad

Interesting that this discussion has come up twice today. I asked the question in another thread called Decans earlier on. It is something I would like to know more about so if anyone has any additional info it would be great to see. I searched the net and got a couple of good articles that give a detailed description of the decans in each sign but it is too large to post on here. Is there some way this can be posted so others can read it or print the info? I have saved it as a word document.

Another question about this. Reading another article on the personal characteristics of the Ascendant sign would the decans in each give a more accurate description of the persons Ascendent and therefore thier physical appearance?????

Does this effect all planets in particular the Progressed Moon???? We would then be dealing with an emotional progression that changes as it moves through the houses. Not 12 Progressed moon phases but 36???? Does anyone know????

I would think we would take on characteristics of the specified decante that our Asc. falls into. I do also believe whenever I progress, I change, I meet people more of that sign, my emotions run different.

Decantes are fairly easy to read.
It goes something like this.

Aries.
1D=aries
2D=Leo
3D=Sag.

Leo
1D=leo
2D=Sag.
3D=Aries

Notice something of that pattern??
Thats how they work.
The first Decan is always of the same sign.
The second Decan is always the following sign BY ELEMENT in a counter clockwise motion.
A earth sign will have all eart decans.
A fire Sign sill have all fire decans....etc.etc.

THe dwads are differnet
it is the split of the sign into 12's I believe instead of 3's, and other elements come into play.


Another Decan Example,
Piscies
1D=piscies
2D=cancer
3D=scorpio

The dwads follow a patern as well, but I haven't spotted it yet....to lazy too.

Well I have spotted the pattern of the dwads....it just looks easier to have a chart on hand for them though...they work the same as the Decans, with the first dwad being that of the sign. Gem-1st decan=gemini....then they go arround the wheel of the zodaic by element....till the 12th is reached from the first.

Aries decans go all the way up to piscies.

Still I wonder why they chose to do dwads in the first place, and what is the signifigance to them...really.........and how do they work by aspect....is it a form of a harmonic chart??
I still havent learned how to read harmonic charts yet.
I have heard that Vedic astrology takes the 9th harmonic chart into serious concideration when looking at a natal chart......something that they look at the charts side by side....

I think it might be good to see where planets fall for certain people that do not have a balance in a chart as for Triplicities or Modes etc..

I have no planets in Air ,but all my planets fall on Air degree's as an example.

I realize now this is spelled dwad and I just bought a book on it...awesome info. I got another for sale on my Ebay. I'm definitely convinced this is the secret to the 360 degrees of the zodiac because there are dwads within dwads down to each and every degree. Oh boy...super excited. I can't wait to delve in and begin studying this.

Each sign consists of three faces of ten degrees each just as each sign consists of three decans of ten degrees each, but I don't think the rulerships always match.

I have italicized the faces and decans that do, however.

Aries:

Mars rules first face and first decan
Sun rules second face and second decan
Venus rules the third face, while Jupiter rules the third decan


Taurus:

Mercury rules the first face, while Venus rules the first decan
Moon rules the second face, while Mercury rules the second decan
Saturn rules the third face and the third decan


Gemini:


Jupiter rules the first face, while Mercury rules the first decan
Mars rules the second face, while Venus rules the second decan
Sun rules the third face, while Saturn/Uranus rulers the third decan


Cancer:


Venus rules the first face, while the Moon rules the first decan
Mercury rules the second face, while Mars/Pluto rules the second decan
Moon rules the third face, while Jupiter/Neptune rules the third decan


Leo:

I love using the duads, has anyone heard of the dodekatamoria? It's like the duads, but you divide the signs by 13 instead, that causes the sign itself to be represented twice, at the beginning and the end of the sign, and it restores the natural order (the last duad of each sign is two signs away from the first duad of the succeeding sign.)

Duads or dwads (both forms of spelling are correct) describe a little mini zodiac within each zodiac sign. Each zodiac sign has twelve divisions of 2 degrees and 30 minutes each and these divisions are called duads. The first duad of two degrees thirty minutes is always the same as the sign, the othe duads then follow in the natural order of the zodiac. e.g. the first duad of Aquarius is the Aquarius duad, the second (2.5 - 5.00 degrees) is Pisces, the third (5-7.5 degrees) is Aries ... and so on. They always finish with the sign before the zodiac sign e.g. for Aquarius the degrees between 27.5 and 30 will be the Capricorn duad. Duads are not harmonic charts. They describe the zodiac within each sign and are complete within each sign.

Duads describe an underlying energy that affects you very strongly. For example, someone born in the Gemini duad of Aquarius is quite different from someone born in the Scorpio duad of Aquarius. Someone born with the Leo duad of Cancer rising will look very different to someone born with the Pisces duad of Cancer rising.

I discovered/invented duad charts and Solar Fire kindly made the calculation of these available on their program. The instructions on how to calculate them are included in the twins article. There is one error in this article, when calculating the charts you need to click NO not YES when asked if you want to proceed using the non-standard (non vedic) chart. For this system you need to use the tropical chart.

These charts clearly describe the differences in twins and respond well to transits.

I am currently writing a book on the duad system, but, because of family pressures and my own tiredness, it seems to be taking forever.

I have a book on the Decanates and the Duads with an interpretation.

The book is quite small and entitled, "The Zodiac Within Each Sign." By Frances Sakoian and Louis Acker.

It gave me quite an accurate description of my decan and duad:

My sun is Virgo-Taurus-Taurus. ( My sun is 22 degrees of Virgo).

The book's interpretation:
"The double-Venus influence present gives these natives a strong sense of beauty and refinement (YUP). Like the second duad of Virgo, they prefer harmonious surroundings in their work area (YUP). Business people with this duad prominent are usually impeccably dressed (YUP) in order to impress their clients and gain an aura of reliability and status. Creature comforts and objects which represent status give them a sense of security and importance in their job (YUP). Since the moon is exalted in Taurus, these natives are fond of good food, clothing and creature comforts (YUP). They lavish attention and work on their family and home, and are concerned with their family's health, diet and status. (YUP)

These Virgos have strong, practical business sense that makes them good managers, accountants and sales people, especially in areas related to art, music, luxury items, clothing, gourmet foods, health and beauty aids."

This is VERRRRY True. I don't have a single planet in Taurus or in the second house, but I am VERY Taurian in terms of luxury items and beauty and clothes.

I use the Chaldean faces myself, instead of the element ones.

Still - if you like dodecametories (I think that's how they say dwad in English), you'll love novenarias - that's a division of a sign by 9ths instead of by 12ths, but has the same concept.

A dwad is supposed to impart 1/24th strength of the dwad's sign to the planet's dignity mixture. A novenaria is supposed to impart 1/18th of the strength. And there were/are astrologers who use both.
