Hi all,

This may sound a really ridiculous question, and something I really ought to know by now, but being on the verge of numerical dyslexia, timezones totally baffle me.

Are we at 0 GMT and change over to -1 BST at the Spring Equinox???

I imagine that it then changes back to 0 GMT at the Aurumn Equinox?

You may wonder how I have managed to read charts while lacking a thourough understanding of the timezone issue - so do I. :?

Could someone please explain this to me as they would to a 6 year old child. Unfortunately when it comes to numbers it is the only way it is likely to sink in. :|

Thankyou,

Draco

Almost!
U.K. is lucky in that it's on GMT 'in the winter months'. When the clocks are put forward the hour last weekend of March, it goes over to BST, which is -1 hour for GMT (not BST). A babe born at 5.a.m BST is 4a.m GMT for charting a horoscope.
When the clocks 'are put back' during Autumn, normal GMT is resumed.
The babe's birth is 5 a.m GMT.

Should you have occasion to do charts for the 2nd world war years, you do need to check the time zones, as Double Summer Time (-2hours for GMT) was in force during specific periods. There are also years that remained on GMT when BST was not in force.

Hi Frisiangal,

Thankyou for that. :) I get so baffled with the technicalities of timezones. My thinking can be very fuzzy at times, especially when it comes to maths, and my Pisces ascendant and Neptune on the MC can't help much in this respect.

Cheers,

Draco

Be thankful that we don't live in the U.S of A !!

That does allow things 'to sink in' once you get a hold of them, I should imagine.
