View Full Version : Mercury retrograde and Election for medical tests

I have to get some medical tests done. These are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept 24th, but can be postponed till Friday, September 26th, as it stands now. I have had these tests done several times before, one being a thyroid test. Recently, I have learned some new information on what is now considered abnormal, and would like to have it re-run again. I wasn't thinking about it being the day Mercury goes retrograde when they gave me the date. The timing would be 5:15 to 5:30pm, EST. The only other aspect around that time is on Friday - a Moon semisextile to Sun in Virgo/Libra.

My questions are: 1) Since this is a "re-do", would it be OK to have this done during the day Mercury stations retrograde, or during the retrograde? If so, is the day of the station more or less preferable to during the retrograde?
2) Are the overall aspects more or less preferable on Friday, vs. Wednesday?
3) Does all this really matter for just tests - or only for surgery?

Kind thanks to all for your answers.

Hi Freedom,

Can you post the chart?

Got to rush off to work, but very briefly, Mercury retrograde usually causes a delay in plans/events, even miscommunication, at times. Look at what house Mer rules in the chart, and the aspects it makes. Since you talk about the thyroid gland- look at how Venus is doing in the chart (Thyroid= Taurus= ruled by Ven). For surgery, consider Mars/8th house. Having said that, what must be done, must be done, and so, if tests are required right away, they perhaps should be carried out.

Thanks for your reply, Aquarius7000.

I wasn't really looking for a full chart interpretation - just mainly the information about whether "re-doing" medical tests is considered kosher under Mercury retrograde, and if so, is the day of the station more or less preferable.

As far as Wednesday or Friday, i.e. Moon in Leo vs. Moon in Virgo. Also the Moon semisextile Sun on Friday almost exactly when I would be getting the tests.

I'll be leaving shortly, and since I've received no further replies on this questions.... as of this moment in time, I'm leaning towards Friday for some odd reason. ( I have to go in for another matter today, regardless, as well as Friday. It was my choice when to have the blood drawn.)

And Aquarius7000, it's like you said, "If it must be done, it must be done". I was just really curious about how Mercury retrograde would affect it.

Thanks again.

With Mercury retrograde, just be sure to get a second opinion.

That's the purpose of these tests - a second opinion. Actually, I've had these run several times over the past few years - but nothing shows up.
I recently found out about a new "threshold of acceptance" type of standard in considering what is normal or not - hence the re-run "one more time!" So, does that change the effects of the retrograde?

"Re-run" fits the symbolism of a retrograde Mercury, which is usually a good time to go back and do things over. A good time to revise material already written, for example, but not so hot for starting a new literary project. My rule of thumb is: anything with "re-" as a prefix gets the green light. Re-doing previous tests sounds appropriate to the astrology of the moment. Good luck.

Thanks, Skywatcher1221!

It turns out that the "re" on the day Mercury stationed retrograde turned out to be a "re"-scheduling. I had decided today didn't "feel" right, for some reason, and so had decided on Friday afternoon instead. The doctor did not want to leave the blood samples over the weekend, so the tests were "re"-scheduled for next week, when my regular appointment is. Also, I went in for a blood pressure check today, and the automated b.p. equipment kept showing up with no reading. She "re"- took it twice, then finally had to switch to a manual kind. Yep, Mercury retro strikes again!

Freedom,

Saw your natal chart briefly, and noticed that your 6th ruler- Mer (rx) sits in twelfth (things hidden), no wonder it's not straight & easy to get behind the (health) problem. Also, Mer is poorly aspected by Ura & esp Pluto- which loves some thorough examination first. (Traditional) Ruler of 2nd (natural house of Taurus- rules Thyroid), Saturn sits in the 2nd itself & in Pisces (also things hidden), and is also debilated by Ura & Plu. Saturn might also hint at a long-standing problem and one, which may not be overcome easily. Notice also that Sat from the second (Taurus-thyroid) squares 6th ruler (health house), Mer in twelfth (things hidden/confusion), as well as Sun (natural bringer of health). As regards your natal retro Mer, they say that people with a retrograde planet in their nativity are slightly better off, in the retro periods of that planet later. However, generally, retro Mer periods account for misunderstandings, misconception, delays; so keeping this in mind, just wait & see how the med examination goes this time, and take it from there.

Oh & btw, Friday in Astrology is considered as the day of Venus, which rules Taurus, which, in turn, rules the thyroid gland, so not a bad choice perhaps. Sorry about taking the thread a bit off track, but maybe this health/ med-astro related info helps a little.

On this Venusian note, good luck again.

Very astute reading of the health factors here! I've not had much practice at health readings, and really haven't had too many other reading health-wise either - mostly horary. I'm especially interested in Saturn in Pisces squaring the ruler of 6th, Mercury (r) in Sag. I have a good feeling about this Mercury retrograde cycle, so maybe it will help out my poor little ole' Mercury. Mercury also rules my 9th, which is the house this retrograde cycle takes place in. I've also noticed that Mercury is taking the brunt of the T-square with Uranus/Pluto in Virgo on one end, and Saturn, Eros, Chiron, Ceres on the other. The outlet point is appx. 16* Gemini in the 6th. This HAS to be important somehow as a key to my healing. Transiting Pallas is currently sitting at 16* Gemini at the time this Mercury retrograde cycle began.

Don't worrry about throwing the thread off-track. To me, it's not "off-track" unless it's not productive to the solving of my problem. However, I think I might start a new thread, as you've given me food for thought....
