struggling in putting things together

I think I am in a learning curve here and finding it difficult to pull the information together in a coherent picture. I have been focusing on solars, lunars and lately horary but finding it difficult to understand progressions and sad to say my own natal chart. Can any one give me an author or book that would help me bring these things together? there are so many out there. I have several books but they seem like baby books now as I see how advanced the others are on this site. Thanks to all who reply.

Nancy Anne hastings has a book on secondary progressions called "time to remember". Nancy is a practicing astrological counsellor with many years of hands on experience in progressing charts and figuring out how the progressed positions will manifest in the clients life. Highly recommended reading.
