View Full Version : Houses in Chart question

I'm rather new to astrology, but have been catching on fairly quickly. Excuse me for my ignorance :p
Now, my dilemma is this: my interpretation of creating a chart is that your ascendant and whatever planets are in it are ALWAYS in your first house (for me, that would be Capricorn rising, Neptune and Mars in Capricorn). Since where I'm located there are little, if any, astrologers to help me understand something, I have used the internet to draw up my chart for me. The thing with that is that online sites always put whatever planets are in Capricorn in my twelfth house, which I don't understand why. Would the site, then ,be correct?
:confused::confused:

-edit- question answered :)

Hi James,

I hope I've understood your question correctly, so that my answer to it can help you.

The ascendant marks the beginning of the first house in a chart. Now, the planetary ruler of the sign in which the ascendant falls, and so of this (first) house, is automatically the ruler of the ascendant. However, there is no hard & fast rule that any planets need to be placed in the first house at all, not even the one ruling the ascendant, or the ones located in the sign of the ascendant. You have no planets in the first house, and the ruler of your ascendant, ie Saturn, is located in the tenth house.

Again, in your chart, and I will try to put this simply, your Capricorn ascendant falls at a very late degree: 28°31', which is where your first house just about begins. But the sign of Capricorn ends after about a degree and a half, and then the sign of Aquarius begins, which is followed by Pisces, still within your first house. At about the tenth degree of Pisces, your second house starts. Let us not go any further with the houses at this point.

James, it will be very helpful, if you got yourself some basic Astrology books. These you can easily order at: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=node%3D1000%2C22%2C12621%2C12624&field-keywords=basics .

In the meantime, perhaps you'd like to check out the post at the URL below, which lists up some commonly-used online Astrology links, where you can get some immediate basic information:

aah, I see.
I've always been under the impression that whatever is in your ascendant is in your first house, so I've always kind of ignored the interpretations many sites would give me because of that.:o
Interesting. Thanks for clearing that up!

I'll look into more astrology books. I currently only have one: The Only astrology book you'll ever need, by Joanna Martine Woolfolk :)

James-
that is a good start!
I like Robert Hands- Horoscope Symbols...it gives a wonderful breakdown of the houses....
Your chart is nicely balanced....you have planets here and there...
