View Full Version : How do you REALLY find out your ascendant sign?
Hey everyone,
I'm really confused. On cafeastrology.com I did my natal chart there and it says my ascendant sign is aquarius but then I went on asiaflash.com/rao/western_ascendant.shtml And it told me my ascendant sign is scorpio. I'm pretty convinced my ascendant sign is scorpio because appenly all rising scorpios have a near death at birth and I had one. So someone pplease help me?
btw, please DON'T look at this as spam. I'm only trying to figure out my ascendant sign!
Btw. I'm a capricorn
Saturn pride baby.

The most reliable site is astro.com.
It also depends which house system is being used, but since Aquarius and Scorpio are pretty much too far from eachother, I don't think that's the issue. Since you're not born in summer that pretty much rules out summertime differences to GMT as well.
If you really want to be sure sure what your ASC is, calculate it yourself.
Needed:
- longitude and latitude of your birth place.
- ephemeris of day/month/year of birth.
- house tables of your favorite house system (Placidus most used).
1. Check the locality of your birth time. What is the time zone? Was there summertime in your year?
2. Devise the GMT time from your birth time. If you are born in timezone CEDT (central european daylight time), subtract 2 hours.
3. Add 10 minutes for every 4 degrees longitude if the birthplace is east, subtract if it is west. You have now devised Local Time. Local Time is used in the follow up calculations.
(somethings off here... correct me fellow astrologers)
1. Look up star time from your ephemeris on your birthday.
2. For every 15 degrees longitude, subtract 10 seconds from the star time if the birth place is eastern, add 10 seconds if the star time is western.
3. Add the hours of the local time.
4. Add 10 seconds for each hour of local time you added.
You now have the correct star time for your birth data. Get your house tables ready and look up the latitude you were born in. Then check to find the matching star time. Here is a list of all your house positions, including your ascendant (and sign).
It's been a looooooooooong time since I've manually calculated anything; so please correct me if any mistakes.

Thanks for this explanation Razalhague. It has been long time ago for me as well, so this is a good reminder of it. But as I have become a real lazy Taurus when it comes to calculations, indeed Astro.com is the best place to go to.
DofS, if you quickly give me your birthtime, place and date, I can do it for you. You can PM me the details if you dont want others to see them.
Cheers, Starlink

One intuitive way is to ask yourself what sign you get along with best, this pretty much guarantees what your ascendant is. My sun is opposite your's, Cancer (Lunar love!!!). I always seemed to get along with Virgos and Pisces really well, I was surprised when I learned my ascendant was Virgo (my Lot/Part of Fortune is Pisces, so I guess that explains why I get along with them so well).
Interesting that you say the Scorpio-risings have a near-death at birth, I was sick and underweight when I was born (and addicted to some drug), and here I am Virgo and Pisces... :69:
