As point of interest, first Oscar ceremony data
16 May 1929
Hollywood
18.00 PST
Moon in first ceremony chart was 10 Virgo. Uranus now opposes with Mars close to midpoint. I haven't really had time (or to be quite honest, the inclination) to look into all the charts but someone else might like to 'cause at first glance, it looks like being a pretty explosive ceremony -with a few shocks and surprises, plus the usual emotional outbursts.
Sometimes though the aspects just reflect the films that are going to win. in this case Brokeback Mountain is the 'revolutionary' film as it is, to my knowledge, the first potential oscar winning film to deal with the issue of homosexuality.
It will be interesting to follow the ceremony from an astrological perspective.

Hi Futurist,
This is interesting, and I have never considered looking into the astrology of the Oscars before. Surely the Sun should be important in these charts? After all the Oscars are about huge egos and personalities seeking to outshine each other in acquisition of the golden trophies.
I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet, but usually it's obvious which movie will scoop most of the awards and this will probably be a front-runner. I think that the film is revolutionary in that this is the first time that Hollywood have ever depicted homosexuality in a non stereotypical context. Usually homosexual characters are depicted in American films to a ridiculous extreme and as comedic props who are always the butt of the joke.
Do you know the data for the date that the ceremony will be held?
You have me intrigued here, I like event charts.
I'll pop back in and discuss this with you.

Hi
It's tomorrow, the 5th. Not sure what time they start. Around 3pm PST I think but hopefully one of our US friends will fill us in.

I believe it is at 7 pm
I don't do events, but three planets in Rx motion (Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn) strikes me as trouble. Maybe there will be delays or restrictions. We might not learn about them though because they're likely to be behind the scenes, you know.

Hmmm....if one compares the original release date charts for the candidates for best picture with Oscar's event charts (both this year's and the original), would one get a predictive stance on who the winner might be?
Of course, I guess one would need to check out when the pictures were in limited vs. wide release here in the States and choose which chart to use.
I also wonder if the same methodology could be used to see why a picture was shut out of contention, say like Walk the Line or The Constant Gardener.
To set up the events chart, you would need to use the PST time, which would be 5:00 p.m.
Sore, perhaps the three planets in retrograde motion may mean there will be plenty of upsets in the conventional wisdom of who will win. :D

Hi all,
Here is what is said about this years Oscars on about.com:
All five of this year’s Best Picture nominees throw the spotlight on controversial topics. “Brokeback Mountain,” “Capote,” and “Transamerica” deal with homosexuality and gender issues while Paul Haggis’ “Crash” explores racial stereotypes. “Capote” and “Good Night, and Good Luck” each focus attention on the media and its responsibility to the public at large. Spielberg’s “Munich” brings the events of the 1972 Olympics front and center while examining how governments respond to terrorists and terrorism.
Perhaps these are themes worth looking for. It is interesting how three of the five best picture nominees deal with issues of sexuality and gender, and that the Oscars natal Mars will be opposing transitting Venus this year, perhaps in the case of Brokeback, bringing up the theme of homosexuality, and at long last, challenging the public stereotype.
Transamerica is about a male to female transexual, who just before having the full op, discovers that he has a son, and the film explores their relationship. This film hasn't yet been released in the UK. I don't know how Capote deals with sex or sexuality issues though, this hasn't been released here yet either. These themes seem to be quite descriptive of transitting Venus opposing natal Mars for the Oscars.
For Brokeback, that natal Mars opposes transitting Venus and sextiles (i.e. aspects a sign of its own masculine gender) transitting Mars and the Moon, then this might describe the theme of homosexuality in the film itself, as well as challenging stereotypes (Mars representing homosexuality for a change, instead of effeminate Venus).
Transitting Mars in Gemini will be moving through the 7th house of the Oscars, rousing the theme of homosexual relationship perhaps, especially as Mars is in Gemini, the prefix 'homo' from the Greek, meaning 'the same, or equal to', which would be reflected in the the sign of the twins, and with Mars here - homosexuality. The waxing transitting Moon will be conjunct this transitting Mars, adding emotinal impact and and bringing the closest focus of attention upon this theme of homosexual romance.
Transitting Mars also sextiles the Oscars natal Uranus, again across masculine signs, and Uranus is in Mars' sign of rulership, so Mars has a powerful influence on the Oscars latent sense of originality and the smashing of conventions, in this case, the conventional stereotypical perception of 'gays', which have been depicted in a masculine context for the first time. Natal Uranus is also conjunct the transitting North node, spearheading a revolution in sexual perceptions, particularly where homosexuality and gender are concerned. Note also that Saturn is retrograde, bringing in the theme of turning orthodox perceptions upside down, and again this concerms the themes of sexuality and masculinity, because Saturn retrograde is conjunct the Oscars natal Mars placement.
So, if the charts can reflect the likely major movie, then I think we could say that Brokeback will scoop the major prizes, as the theme of this film is reflected in the synastry.
Of course Brokeback is the favourite to win most awards anyway, and I think that this is clearly reflected in the charts.
Also, note the Sun/Uranus conjunction opposing the Oscars natal Moon in Virgo, challenging a prudish and sexually conservative Virgo Moon with an illuminating and revolutionary conjunction.
Here's the synastry, first Academy Awards on the on the inside, 2006 event on the outside:

There you go then - I only looked at ABC news reports on the net but I lost track of the times I read the words, shocked, stunned and surprised! Uranus working its magic. You can't get a more literal translation of 'Crash' than Mars, Moon, Uranus so the first ceremony chart does speak of the winning film.
I haven't read anything else other than headlines but if anyone watched it or knows more I would be interested to hear if there was anything 'Uranian' about the actual ceremony this year? I know they postponed it for the Olympics, which is 'change' and I believe they had a radical new presenter?? Anything else?
Thanks
