View Full Version : Sinus congestion-will I need surgery for this?

I have already had one surgery on my sinuses to open the passages, but because I used to smoke I continued to have chronic sinus problems. I have been smoke free for several months and have been living a very healthy lifestyle, but I am still congested. Will I need to go through another surgery to get rid of this or are there other options available? Once Saturn moves pass the opposition of my sun will I be feeling better?

I would think that there are two parts to your sinus issue: one is Saturn in the 1st house, which dampens your vitality (and gives you issues with the structures of your body, including your bones), and Mars, which brings inflammation; but what's more you currently have Jupiter retrograding through your 6th house, indicating a recurrence and exaggeration of health issues; you also have your natal Mars in there, so Jupiter will eventually conjunct Mars, indicating a possible exacerbation of the condition, at least while the transit is going.

I would hope that surgery will be a last resort, as you need your sinuses. Just a few suggestions, but have you had any issues with your teeth? The reason I ask this is because you have Capricorn on the 6th (again, ruling bones and teeth)...my right maxillary sinus is always slightly stuffed up, and what I realised is that my upper right wisdom tooth is the only one I haven't had removed, because it is *too high* up in my maxilla; the roots don't extend into the sinus, but by Jove, they are pretty close. This, I feel, is part of the problem. The root or the connection of tooth to facial nerves is somehow irritating the sinus. My dentist laughs, but he can't give me a definitive 'yes' or 'no' about it, either. I trust my guts on this.

Have you tried a neti pot with warm saline? These are quite effective. I do them when I get gunged up.

There may also be some hidden food allergies (especially with Mars and Mercury in your 6th house): milk and dairy, for example, increase mucous production in many people. You might experiment with removing various foods from your diet for about a month at a time, and document any changes you notice, or talk to your allergist about it.

As it is, you have only been smoke-free for a matter of months. It may take your body a longer period to adjust. If you can find a cranial osteopath or someone who does cranio-sacral work, this might help a great deal.

But I think, with your current transits, you are probably in the throes of a healing crisis; try and work through it without the surgery, first. I think you'll be fine.

Good luck!

AG , you just brought up some excellent points! I never even thought about this, but I only got the bottom wisdoms removed and not the top! Hmmm, thats definately something to consider. Also, I tried giving up dairy for about a week, but maybe I should try giving it up for a bit longer. I have been doing my reading and I am thinking that if I can just get decongested I wont have to deal with this again. Smoking was definately the culprit! I will be thinking about everything you said, thank you soooo much! :)

Try the neti pot, then, 4leafclovah, if you haven't done so yet. They're a bit weird to do at first, but they've been used for thousands of years, so obviously they work!:)

Here's a great article from Wikipedia, including the benefits and drawbacks.

Best of luck to you,

Hi 4leaf

I suffer from Sinus problems and just spent Jan-June living in West Virginia where everyone told me my sinuses would go haywire but infact I had very little problem. A month living back in Cambridge UK and they are way more twitchy. The main difference is the level of traffic pollution here rather than WV (I cycle) and I eat dairy and bread here which I didn't in the USA where they have some lovely non-dairy cheese replacements. I also read somewhere you shouldn't sleep with the window open at night as it makes sinus problems worse but I can't find the link atm, sorry!

Ariane, I am definately gonna try staying off dairy for awhile and see if that helps. I am a Pisces and from what I have read dairy isn't good especially for Pisces because it causes overproduction of mucous. I'm also thinking my job may be hurting me because its an old building and never gets cleaned-lots of dirt, dust and mold. The basement is awful! An absolute hole in the wall!!!

No so good for you in an old building :( I read also that there are chemicals in some products like plug in air freshners which trigger sinus problems. I am very allergic to the plug-in ones and some perfumes. Good luck, I hope you manage to get it sorted cos it's no fun. Good Luck :)

:) Thank you everyone for your help! Hopefully I can get this taken care of without having surgery.
