Viktor Yushchenko inauguration

Viktor Yushchenko was sworn in as president of Ukraine - on January 23, 2005, at 12:28:46 pm EET (10:28:46 am GMT), in Kiev.

This inauguration comes after a long battle for the presidency with ex-Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych. Yushchenko defeated Yanukovych in the December 2004 election rerun after the Supreme Court threw out Yanukovych's victory in November's vote because of electoral fraud.

Inauguration chart overview

Just as Venus is the main planet in marriage charts, Jupiter is the main planet in presidential inauguration charts. Therefore I'll focus on Jupiter in this interpretation.

Jupiter, natural ruler of politics and politicians, Mercury, the Ascendant ruler and Saturn, the traditional ruler of Aquarius, the sign on the 10th house, they are all in cadent houses, meaning that Yushchenko's 5 years presidency is not going to bring a radical change in Ukrainians' lives, yet his presidency is more likely to represent a shift in consciousness, introducing more of the Western values and mentality to the people (Ascendant ruler in the 9th house).

Jupiter is the focal point of the T-square formed of the Moon opposite Venus and Mercury in cardinal signs (leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, impulse to action) and is well supported by the sextile with Mars (energy, dynamism) and Pluto (responsability, leadership, charisma) and the trine with Neptune (idealism, optimism). This seems like a very committed leadership which intends to lead Ukraine back to the right way.

Yet, Moon's applying aspects, the oppositions announces it to be a tough job, while the last aspect of the Moon (conjunction with Rx Saturn) spells fighting with the system's inertia.

Jupiter's Sabian Symbol, "A gang of robbers in hiding" (Libra 19) is quite descriptive for the situation. Lynda Hill describes this Sabian Symbol link this: "You may feel that you have been wronged or something has been taken from you. At the moment there is, however, no way of finding who or what is the cause. You could spend your time searching for perpetrators, but a much better solution is to just get on with your life. Things will most probably come to light at a later time. Gaining unfair advantage. If negative - gaining unfair advantage at someone else's expense. Finding it hard to trust anything. Difficult hidden energy that may erupt into consciousness."

He's got a lot of ennemies and they are really dangerous - as clearly shown by the Mars-Pluto conjunction in the 7th house. I'd say there are two main groups of ennemies collaborating, and the secret services may really be one of them (Mars rules the 12th house), just as Yushchenko fears. The other group, represented by Pluto, may be a more discreet or weak and it is related with the 6th house (military, health system, workers) - Pluto ruled Scorpio intercepted in the 6th house.

The Pars of Fortune in Scorpio, the 6th house, smack on the "cursed degree" (19th of Scorpio, Serpentis, associated with black magic, major disasters) has actually turned into the Part of Misfortune and is a sensitive negative point of the chart, as well as the Mars-Pluto conjunction of the 7th house. Due to this we may expect other threatens to Viktor Yushchenko's well-being, health or even life.

Yulia Tymoshenko's pick as a Prime Minister is likely to vex the Russians as she is the subject of an arrest warrant in Russia where authorities want to question her on charges of forgery and gas smuggling while she was head of a private gas trading firm in the mid 1990s. She denies the charges.
Interestingly, as seen above, the inauguration chart's Moon on the ASC line passes very close to Moscow...

The Jupiter on MC line in the astrocartography map passing through the US is an indication of the Western direction of Ukrainian foreign politics from now on.

Actually even with minutes to go before his triumphant inauguration, Yushchenko has secured renewed U.S. backing for his bid to move closer to Europe. Shortly before, the U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell who attended the inauguration ceremony declared:
"I want to assure you that you will continue to enjoy the full support of the American government and the American people as you move forward to undertake the efforts that the Ukrainian people are expecting."

The Moon on IC line passes close to Brusells, the home of the European Union headquarters, expressing Yushchenko's view of Ukraine as part of the Europe. After taking the oath of office in the Ukrainian Parliament, Viktor Yushchenko then made his way to Independence Square and told to the hundreds of thousands massed there that they had every right to be part of a broader Europe

"Our way to the future is the way of a united Europe. We, along with the people of Europe, belong to one civilisation. We share similar values," Yushchenko told cheering supporters.

In his 20-minute address to his supporters gathered in the Independence Square on that chilly afternoon, he made no direct mention of Russia, although the first foreign trip abroad as Ukrainian President was to Moscow, to meet Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, the next day.

The astrocartography map for Russia of the inauguration chart shows the Moon on the Ascendant line passing close to Moscow, expressing the tight relationships and even Ukraine's dependency to Russia.
In the same time, Neptune on Midheaven line through Moscow refers to Yushchenko's intentions to weaken these close bounds and set course for his country towards the European Union.
