Sometimes sexual / romantic energies are sublimated into artistic activities. For those who are inclined to be excessively intense, involvement in art or music can bring strong emotions down to a manageable level.

If you have Venus opposing Mars by sign but not by aspect, the foregoing may apply to you. However, less energy would be expended in passionate hating; you'd be more inclined to just break up and go on.
